Just looks like it from those highlights, and those highlights are from the Russian broadcaster, look at Mekhontsev reaction after the fight as well, looks like he knew he'd lost

Really? he's not on the TopRank website listed as one of their fighters, he was before.

    Russian interview with him :
    https://matchtv.ru/boxing/matchtvne...r_Mehoncev___pro_Frenka_Sinatru_i_boi_na_Lune

When asked about Top Rank, he says he can't comment on it.

Rian Scalia is very knowledable and not usually wrong

    Mekhontsev vs. Perdomo

Mekhontsev fails to impress as he only gets by Perdomo on a debateable majority decision. Despite both fighters being southpaws there styles produced a good contest. Mekhontsev forced the fight much of the way but Perdomo scored with some good counters. Mekhontsev was just that bit busier and more accurate but worryingly Perdomo was able score with some cracking punches through the porous defence of the Russian with Mekhontsev forced to hold on desperately a couple of times. A draw would have been a fair result but away from home wins can be hard to find. The 32-year-old Mekhontsev does not look likely to make it to the top as a pro. In the amateurs he won gold medals at the Olympics and the World Championships and twice at the European Championships. He signed with Top Rank but was unimpressive in drawing in August last year against Alex Johnson and his career seems to have stalled. Venezuelan Perdomo, 39, lost to Mikkel Kessler for the WBC super middle title in 2009 but has had periods of low activity. However he was coming off a good win over Azea Augustama (20-2) in March

When Egor turned pro, I had major doubts because of his amateur style. He gave me a bit of hope when I saw him become a body puncher in one of his earliest pro fights, but this wasn't to be. Egor was a Great amateur, some are just not meant for the pros.

He said he wants bigger fights, not a journeyman, I think motivation is the problem here, Top Rank matches him against a journeyman type opposition.

Promoter Umar Kremlev announced that on July 22 in Moscow there will be a big boxing evening, within which your duel with the Venezuelan Gusmyr Perdomo will take place. Are you already preparing for the battle?

    - I saw fragments of the opponent's fights, I know that Perdomo is left-handed, experienced enough - more than 30 fights in the professional ring. Latinos are usually very persistent and strong-willed fighters, I have never met others. Preparations are in full swing, we have already passed two gatherings, the next will be in Kislovodsk and on the finish line before the fight one more. Where exactly - I do not know yet, but there is no difference to me, just to prepare normally. The most important thing is that there must be an end result. And how you achieved it - it does not matter.

    - Do you plan to go further along the WBA line? In principle, there are many interesting contenders - Andre Ward will challenge the WBA Super title with Sergei Kovalev very soon, Neyton Cleverly is the regular champion, Dmitry Bivol - temporary.

    - Temporary, everyday, on weekends - this interests me little. The champion is alone. Here I am in my weight champion of the world in 2009 for fans, and in that year there are no other champions. And in these nuances I do not understand. Now I have a problem - preparing for the next fight.

    - Your last fight took place on August 6 last year. Why did it take such a long pause?

    - Problems were with getting the fight. Right now, God grant that everything will turn out. In amateurs everything is different, there the system is debugged: we go to one tournament, to another, then selections, the main start. And in the pro fight still need to get. I had such a pause - first postponed, then offered another date in Russia, but I refused, there was a ridiculous fee that did not suit me. I need to keep the brand, I think. If you are boxing for free today, then tomorrow no one can pay you any more. Someone says that he is not fighting for money - let him tell me why he is fighting, if not for financial gain. I believe that this is absurd. Honestly, it makes me laugh.

    - With whom are you currently cooperating?

    - This fight will be carried out by the promotional company "Patriot".I am with Top Rank, they gave permission to conduct the next fight in Russia. In the future will be seen. I'm ready, pay money - we will work, the conversation is very simple. I'm waiting for fights, I'm ready to go to the ring and work. I look forward to it almost from August of last year - well, or a little later. I hope that the battle will take place on July 22, we are now preparing, we have passed good training stages.

    - You spent most of your battles in America, only two in China and one in Moscow. Now you will return to your homeland and perform in Red Square ...

    - Yes, the fight is planned there? I did not know. Honestly, there is not much difference. As my friend says: "I'll fight anywhere, even on the moon - just pay money." I have the same opinion. Red Square? Great, let's go there. Any arena or any other city? I agree. The main thing is to have a fight to have a contract. As one knowledgeable person, who for a long time in boxing, told me: "Do you have a contract, Egor?". I answer: "No". He says: "So you have no fight, that's when you sign the contract with your own hand - then there will be a fight, and everything else is talk." I did not see the contract for the fight on July 22, yet it's words. Of course, I'm now preparing, I'm in training mode. But the fight will become a reality when we sign all the documents.

I never expected him to do much in the pros.
