Now that Hopkins vs. Jones has been confirmed, one can only wonder why James Toney hasn't been allowed to step in. Yeah, yeah I get it Toney is old and past prime, but so is Jones and that to a much bigger extend!! For christ sake Jones has been ko'ed in the very 1st round and didn't even protest the stoppage... All claims made by Jones weeks after the fight regarding Green's loaded gloves and handwraps do not seem very credible at this point.
Bottom line is that Hopkins vs. Toney at cruiserweight would have been a nice, marketable fight with a hilarious press conference. Also, the winner of this fight would have been in a very favourable position to challenge the Haye/Ruiz winner...

Jones vs Hopkins makes more sense simply because they fought once before and and almost forever linked both by that fight and by the debacle when they tried to negotiate a rematch. It's giving the fans a fight that they wanted badly, just about a decade too late.

Hopkins vs Toney was never really an in demand fight. At least not as much as as Jones vs Hopkins. It would be giving the fans a fight that they never really cared about, also a decade too late.

Simple - there are bigger fights for Hopkins than the Toney fight. It's all about business and money - and Toney doesn't bring that much money.

At least he claimed so in several recent interviews, and I think that he would have been able to motivate himself for that fight and get off the weight...

I seriously doubt that Jones attracts more ppv's at this point than Toney would...

You are living too much in the past. Nobody cares about Hopkins-Jones right now. Hopkins - Toney is much more credible.

Hopkins is a cherry picker, he only takes fights were he is confident he could win. Which is the reason he is now fighting a corspe of roy jones jr

To be honest I also don't get it, Hopkins-Toney would be a much better fight. Two defensive masters but totally different styles, very intriguing matchup.

With Toney's talking the fight could do good numbers too.

HBO is not even involved with this fight, they are helping Golden Boy distribute the PPV but its not an HBO PPV.

In Demand by who????? Real boxing fans want to see Toney vs Hopkins and i take Toney. Hopkins wont ever take that fight. Kus Toney fights just like him but he does everything except get in shape and use his legs better than Bhop. Bhop does not want any part of Toney. And FYI, I hope Roy knocks Hopkins out, Kus why would he take this fight? Fight Chad.....
