Alvarez has got to be trying to rope a dope here, he's not throwing much and Kovalev keeps wasting his energy throwing 1-2s at his gloves.

Alvarez has moved away from his jab. Get back to that and set up the punches.

Buddy McGirt just might be the real life "fighter whisperer". If Kovalev pulls off a UD and keeps up the streak with McGirt then maybe Haymon should call him up to train Thurman and Broner.

I’ve just woken up in the UK and can’t believe this is still on. Has it gone massively over, what time is it there?

    Round 5

Álvarez is baiting Kovalev, standing in front of him, then blocking his jab and downward-slashing right hand and countering with a quick left hook up top, landing upside the challenger's head and then gathering him into a reverse nelson suplex hold. Álvarez is ducking away from the Kovalev jab bust still getting touched with it. Kovalev busts through Álvarez's guard with the incisive jab and then bashes down with a right hand, pinching Álvarez's chin to his throat. Kovalev jabbing high and low as he pushes Álvarez back.

    10-9 Kovalev

    48-47 Álvarez

If Kov can keep it up he wins the fight. Alvarez has effective defense, though. Nothing really getting through.

We need to see if Kovalev can maintain this pace. We aren't even halfway through the fight yet.

Broner does not have the will to win that Kovalev has or the confidence.

I wish Kovalev would keep that left hand up, since Alvarez is clearly trying to take him out with the right.
