http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=468757&cat=boxer He was originally down to face some guy with a much better record (something like 20-1)
He was supposed to face the African champ, but I reckon he had visa problems. Or maybe because the fight got pushed off TV by Hatton-Branco, his promoter no longer wanted to pay 15,000 quid for an opponent.
I wonder how much these Euro journeymen actually get :think Flights, hotels and other transport plus expenses for their trainer/handler.... commission for their agent, probably Phillipe Fondu. Surely to God it would be cheaper to get a British journeyman who probably lives less than two hours drive away..... with a bit of form and can actually throw a punch?
exactly what i was thinking, theres gotta be a british guy that would cost them less and maybe actually give it ago, rather then these euro bums who make a living from just turning up, i can picture their trainers teaching them how not to throw a punch and the correct technique for going down on one knee
he was offering to fight small at the weigh in. accepting all of smalls gifts that he was giving webb.
Even if the promoter pays more - you get what you pay for. Getting a Eurobum in for about £32 just makes everyone look like idiots, the board for sanctioning it, the promoter and both fighters. He'd have almost been better staying in the gym, or being pimped out on an undercard somewhere.
From what I know would likely cost about 2-2.5k for his opponent. Would probably struggle to get a British fighter to fight Yassine for that.
Talking about purses for fights, here is a little tidbit of information. Michael Dokes, former WBA heavyweight champ, was only paid $500 for his comeback fight against John Morton.
This is a tough fight for El Maachi and could be the best fight on the card:deal I saw Tomas Grublys v Natham Graham last year and it was the best fight on the card that night. Grublys is an all-action warrior and was winning that fight until he got halted due to a bad cut. I see he lost his last fight on a bad cut as well. If he avoids a bad cut, I think he has it within him to pull off a shock. If El Maachi wins this one in style - I think he deserves a lot of credit because Grublys is no mug.
