great post....he has done so well with what he has..i dont understand the change.

Anyways i dont think the trainer or even his skills are the downfall here...Cotto has magnificent taent in his own right....HOWEVER...its not necessarily the skills and talent that seperat Floyd from most...its his mentality in the ring...he is soooooo smart and so crafty as a boxer. he is one of very few fighters who adjust almost after each exchange while in mid round.....this is what needs to be built up for Cotto....his boxing IQ......Floyd is brilliant in his fights......this is why he is able to go up in so many weights and fight different styles.

Something new if Cotto is moving his training camp to Florida why not another Puerto Rican yes Wilfredo Gomez lives and train boxers near Orlando.

Good point and it all sounds nice ... but it seems like to me that Cotto is looking for a yes man and someone who's not so authoritative --

You can create whatever excuse you want but when it comes down to it why change ... him and his uncle had words ... so what ... they both know their roles in this relationship and should just deal with it.

I can see if his Uncle gave him some bad advise but all the fights i've seen of Cotto - I have yet to see that.

I don't know if I understand why a guy would leave his family setting -to train w/ a person they don't know.

I didn't understand why SSM changed trainers, after being trained by his father his whole career (amateur or pro) ... he didn't have any huge fights w/o his dad and I think he came back after the second Vargas fight.

He had like 4 fights w/o his dad ... but you could see that Shane really couldn't relate to the other trainers.

I think that Cotto is going to go back to his uncle some time or another -- he might just be looking for an apology ...

Once you change trainers once (on you own will) you're bound to change them again.

DOes anyone else think Floyd Mayweather would be good for Cotto??
Cottos biggest flaw is his defensive lapses. Mayweather showed he could change a fighter in one fight in Joan Guzman. His defense was great against Soto and it usually was pretty flawed i thought.

I think Cotto has a great offensive arsenal and really the only thing to improve is his defense. I think Mayweather is the one to do it.

Nothings going to change Cotto now ... Cotto is going to be the same fighter he's always been. Only thing he could hope to do is make adjustments during a fight, which neccessarily doesn't have to involve defense ... it could be as simple as jabbing more or getting on his toes, keep his guard high ...

He's been in the fight game for 7 years ... nothing is going to change him at this point.

He's always going to go back to his old ways even if he learns something new ...

    Cotto can't afford Floyd Sr.

Cotto would've benefited from going to other training camps in the amateurs or early on as a pro to learn different techniques from other trainers, but still been able to stick with his uncle.

Yea well that is another thing i was thinking about but i did not want to make this another Cotto-PBF thread...

I think Floyd Sr. is the best way to go for Cotto.
Before Guzman hired Floyd i picked Soto to beat Guzman since he tends to get hit to much but during the fight he definately showed a huge defensive improvement.

Thats all Cotto needs. As it stands i would say this is a 50-50 fight between Cotto and PBF. If Floyd works his corner and Cotto catches on its a 51-49 fight. Ha.
