Whitaker was right at the tail end of his career even though i rate Whitaker higher than Cervantes in the all time rankings. But taking into account Cervantes had more left in the tank i rate the Cervantes higher also taking into account the achievement which you mentioned Benitez being only 17 years old.

The manner in which Benitez beat Duran is why i rate highly it was a schooling and pretty one sided. I agree ODLH deserved to beat Mosley in their rematch but i also had ODLH losing to Quartey by 1 point so it's swings and roundabouts.

 

I still think Whitaker was better. Cervantes was pretty robotic. I don’t get it with Benitez. Spotty resume and never looked great on film to me. He seems like he fits in better with Cory Spinks and Cotto than Oscar and Mayweather to me.

 

The thing is with Benitez is that he could be inconsistent I heard his father really pushed him hard at a young age.

For example look at Benitez vs Curry in their 1st fight Benitez looked so hittable it was a very sloppy performance quite honestly but in the rematch I think Curry won 2 rounds at most.

His performances could be erratic but I think a good version of Benitez is a handful for most fighters. I think he falls a bit short of the very best fighters around his weightclass but I think he is capable of beating ODLH.

I wouldn't like to say either way honestly I think it's a close fight but I could see ODLH edging a decision based on his combination punching.

 

Benitez outclasses Oscar at any weight.
