Miguel, turned professional in 1966, and by March 1977 was the #1 WBA Welterweight, and the Argentinian Welterweight Champion. The 32 year-old 'El Zorro' had posted a record of 81-4-4 (31 KO's), and Challenged WBA Welterweight Champion - 19 year-old Jose 'Pipino' Cuevas 17-6-0 (15 KO's) in Mexico City on March 12, 1977. Pipino was making the '2nd-Defense' of his WBA Welterweight Championship. 'El Zorro' was on a (4 1/2) year unbeaten streak of 36-0-1, and was positioned as the #1 WBA Challenger, as well as a 2-1 Betting Favorite over the young Pipino Cuevas.
