I did a lot of hard sparring this past month, and my right elbow has been troubling me for the past couple of weeks. A bit of pain there. Is this fairly common, or is it something I should get looked at?
I think it is the jab with me as I am a southpaw and the jab is my best punch and I use it a ton. What did you do to correct this issue?
i never really did, but just tried to shorten my punch so my arm didn't lock.oddly i never felt anything in an actual fight but when i first started i was making the mistake of throwing my arm out all the way, shadow boxing i never had any bother with my jabbing arm (left) even though i'd broken the humerus and damaged the radial nerves.i think i always got my shoulder behind the jab properly.
Ja I had a bit of trouble with this, i needed to try get my distance a bit shorter because i was over reaching and i started using a vitamine called glucosamine its a common treatment for arthritis and provides your body with all the things we need to repair the damaged cartlige and ligaments (Needed to heal the damage that was done) Glucosamine also helps with knee pain and any other joint injury within a month of making these changes I was right as rain. Good luck with the training
I had this problem with my left (as a southpaw) since I was throwing the punch wrong. Had to rets it for about 1 month.
Yes, I think what you gentleman are saying is the same case with me; I am overextending my arm when I throw the jab and need to shorten up the distance a little bit. I used to be on a daily dose of glucosamine and chondroitin, but I stopped a while back. Perhaps I should get back on it...
If you're over-extending your arm that's something you want to sort out not start taking supps for the pain or whatever...
I agree with whats been said correcting your technique is the most important thing, I dont dispute this and it is the reason your elbow is sore but if there is pain the cartlidge has been damaged and glucosamine with help fix the damage that has been done. It will greatly decrease the recovery time and this cant do any harm but the decision is ultimately yours good luck
Hyperextension. I have done it too especially when you are up against "the wall" in sparring. You are trying to make something land and you whip that jab out and don't "brake" it before your elbow is jacked. Rest it up. If you keep aggravating it it will become chronic.
