Awkward offense from Gates, preemptively roping out a right jab and then whirring in right hooks up top and roundhouse lefts on the chest to hold Gambardella off. Patient and steady pressure from the solidly built orthodox fighter, exploding a minute in and trapping Gates in the corner with a power flurry. Gates' glove brushes the canvas and he's held up the ropes, should have been given a count, missed call by the ref. Moot point, as moments later Gambardella lands a 1-1-2 stop Gates' crown and puts him down with authority. Gates rises at the count of eight but the ref waved it off, to Gates' dismay.

KO1!

 

They literally can't find the B side opponent for the penultimate bout. The play by play guy says "I'm not surprised, he's a character outside the ring and unorthodox inside, like Ricardo Mayorga.."

They're speaking of Jader Alves de Oliveira, who is 0-9. Bit disrespectful to El Matador..

 

Oh thank goodness, they found him. It's been several minutes now of "hashtag where's Jader" jokes.

10-9 Balakin ...can't remember the last time we got a complete round of boxing.

"Nasty Nate" looking sharp so far in his pro debut, not letting himself get baited by the arms-down rubber-jointed shenanigans of Jader.

 

Two zip Balakin, staying disciplined against the Brazilian-Framinghamite spoiler, who is employing loose-necked defense flopping all over the place and then sneaking in wild overhand counters, but too few of them not to be far behind in this as Balakin just racks up jabs on the chest and keeps plugging up top with the right cross hoping to hit paydirt.

 

30-27 Balakin... diligent performance. Jader is a horrible guy to debut against but Nate is handling it with aplomb. Jader caught on the temple with a right at the bell and hurt.

 

Nasty Nate just unloading in the fourth, no worries about the kid's stamina. He dominates all down the stretch but can't stop the unwilling Alves de Oliveira.

Let's see what "Yung Holy" can do...

 

Round 1

Holyfield is jabbing down at Cicero, following him around the ring. Cicero putting on earmuffs and occasionally digging into Holyfield's body. Cicero gets ripped with a few shots against the ropes before diving in to hold. Cicero rapidly ducking again every time he pops his head up above his arms and gets clocked. Hard chopping rights on the neck and left hooks on the body from Holyfield.

Round 2

Holyfield rushes out, all fired up, throwing blistering straight combos that have Cicero's knees buckling as he crouches and sways against the ropes. Right hand to the body by Holyfield, and Cicero goes down. He rises unsteadily and Holyfield starts laying in with flurries up top, then another hard body shot and Cicero is down again. Up once more and Holyfield is dusting away on his skull with sweeping palm strikes. The ref gives Cicero yet another chance, surprisingly. Double left hook by Holyfield and Cicero down a fourth time. Ref let's it continue, saved by the bell.
