This. Buddy did the impossible and actually got Kovalev to listen, which resulted in Kovalev performing to his potential.
Boxing fans are as bad as the scumbags who run the racket behind the scenes. Bunch of cut throat bandwagoners. Everyone suddenly wants to forget all the **** they talked about Kovalev the past several months now that he's back on top, how he was no good and his career was over because of a loss. Now it's time for the rubbish fan base to raise it's ire against Alvarez, an earnest fighter who's earned everything he's ever gotten in the ring.
Hes back to where he was before beating Kovalev. His career is in limbo again. There is no clear path for him.
The reason i say he is going downhill is because Top Rank is looking to cut him short on his contract because of his loss
As mentioned, a different kovalev turned up and Alvarez had no answers. I’ll admit I was very surprised, I thought the manner of the loss would affect kovalev and also with all the legal stuff cloud his mindset. He done very well and was focused on the job at hand. Alvarez can go again and beat anyone that takes him lightly, he’s a good fighter.
I don't think anyone would count Alvarez out of getting back on track with a good opponent sometime soon.
That makes sense, but I think he'll likely find his way back one way or another. He's too valuable a contender to throw away.
He's a very good fighter who has wins over Kovalev, Pascal, Bute, Chilemba, and Prieto and he was ducked by Adonis for years. He seems like a pretty humble nice guy as well. He just ran into a better prepared and fitter Kovalev in the rematch who was more defensively responsible than he was in their first encounter but he can come again for sure. I'd pick Beterbiev, Gvozdyk and Bivol to beat him but I think he's competitive with anyone at 175 and I would probably pick him to beat everyone else at the weight outside of those 3 and Kovalev who is obviously the only fighter to have beaten him.
Alavrez can sometimes coast for stretches in fights that become tactical affairs, and content himself with defending and landing at a slightly higher percentage while being out-worked during those periods. If you do something to light a fire under his ass, he becomes very dangerous...But if you can keep it relatively safe, you standing a decent chance of outworking him. Kovalev and McGirt realized that, altered their plans accordingly, and won the rematch as a result. But, with the right motivation and gameplan, I wouldn't rule out an Alavrez victory in a hypothetical rubber match. He's talented enough to pull it off.
Alvarez is a very good fighter and can be in some very interesting matchups in the next couple of years, against titleholders Bivol, Gvozdyk, Beterbiev, and perhaps a third fight with Kovalev. And of course he could face other contenders such as Barrera, Smith and Browne.
He was being outboxed consummately by Kovalev in the first fight and caught lightning in a bottle. The only thing different in the rematch is that Kovalev finished the job. (yes I know Kovalev adjusted, I'm referring to the fact that he was on his way to losing a decision in the first fight as well.) Kovalev beats him 9/10. Just so happened the first fight was that 1/10. That's not really going downhill. If he fights Gvod, Beterbiev, Bivol and loses, then after that proceeds to fight and lose to the second tier, Browne, Smith, Jack, Barerra etc... Then we can say he's going downhil.
