Although I agree, you also have to consider that people like Charles Martin are contending for and even holding belts in boxing. We have people jumping up the ranks even though they have done sweet FA and fighting against cab drivers to get there. In my eyes, its not much different than people switching codes and getting a shot, as at the end of the day, the viewer is still paying the PPV fee for a fight that is about as valuable as your local amateur boxing event. I know it's different, but the reality is, because the way that this sport is structured, the way to the top can be very easy for some. I have no problem with people like Kimbo coming into a sport and contending on a high level. However, I agree that jumping in for title fights is ridiculous.
Wrong, Conor is copying Mayweather and has been exposed. Mayweather isn't my favorite fighter but I respect his skills, FMJ is the highest paid athlete and undefeated. How can you explain that?
Wrong, they might advertise better and have a better circus but boxing is way ahead. I started watching UFC in the 90's and people have been saying the same thing over 20 years ago. Guess what, boxing is still going strong and fighters get way better pays.
I don't care to explain that he's the highest paid athlete, I don't care for that. He's undefeated because of the reason that I wrote earlier. I respect his skills, too. MMA is a different game, it's so much easier to lose in MMA, it's as common as Olympic medalists losing in the amateurs..even Lomachenko who has the best record of all time had 1 loss. It doesn't matter, Conor still made the weight and beat everyone, he even beat the P4P king in 13 seconds with a move that isn't a lucky punch but one that's always been in his toolbox. He doesn't have a huge size advantage at LW at all btw. He just beat THE champ in Eddie Alvarez and dominated him. Just give him credit. I like younger PBF.
Thread/ Boxing in Europe is bigger than it is in the states. Once it loses steam here, forget about it! MMA is MUCH bigger in America than Boxing.
Worldwide boxing is much bigger than the ufc. In America right now I would say it is bigger than boxing.
"Conor is notorious for fighting the best." WTF? Seriously. I recognized two names on his CV. Aldo, alright. And Nate Diaz who's a washed up 20-11 nobody, never was, trash talker. Mayweather is a shameful cherry picker but he fought a who's who of the sport in the last twenty years. Their records are just leagues and leagues apart: Pacquiao, De La Hoya, Canelo, Hatton, Castillo, Mosley, Cotto, Corrales, Marquez, Hernandez. Mayweather's career shits all over anybody who's ever fought in mma's. It's not even close. And this is coming from a guy who hates hates hates Floyd Mayweather. You have to be either completely insane or a total idiot to think that Conor McGregor compares in any way to the best boxers in our sport. The competitive level of mma is anemic. That's why they told everybody that Ronda Rousey was the ultimate warrior second coming of Mike Tyson after she beat up 9 tiny women. Hell, Floyd's beat up more ladies than that. Probably bigger ones too.
1. Conor does fight the best. a. Jose Aldo b. Eddie Alvarez c. Chad Mendes d. Nate Diaz (who is not a washed up nobody, he was on the best patch of his career) e. Max Holloway f. Dustin Porier He fought the latter when he had just started the UFC. Give this man his credit. UFC records are different to Boxing records. Boxing = protect an 0 fighting bums. AIBA's = you have to fight the best; medallists have an average of a 30% losing record. 2. I'm not comparing Mayweather's record with Conor's record but for certain I'm saying Conor fights the best and Mayweather only picks them when they're semi-shot or in awful condition. 3. 9 'tiny' women, well Rousey herself is among that tiny weight in that case. 4. People don't understand that MMA is about a mesh of different styles to become the ultimate fighter. If you're a specialist in one area and pretty adept in another, it won't guarantee you success. There are so many more variables involved, it's why you'd pick an MMA fighter in the street against a mere boxer.
Never heard of any of them. They can't be that great. If I look them up, are they all going to be like 15-5? MMA has had a few legit stars over the years Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, George St Pierre. The rest don't seem to be able to put two decent wins back to back. You can defend how shallow the sports average talent level is all you want. Say that the best fight the best, when really they just fight whoever's there. They only look elite because they are evenly matched journeymen. You can say that they lose all the time and have **** records because their opposition is insane, or because it's a complicated sport, but really mma isn't more complicated than a lot of sports. If you win some, lose some, you just aren't that good. Elite athletes don't drop a couple losses here and there to nobodies. Michael Phelps, Lance Armstrong, Usain Bolt, Kelly Slater, Roger Federer, Nova Djokovic, Michael Schumacher, Michael Jordan, Lin Dan, Pele, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Wayne Gretzky, and Floyd Mayweather consistently dominate. Moreover, they dominate in the big boy sports that millions of people play, not this rinky dink mma which has fewer professional athletes than women's field hockey.
whachoo talkin bout foo ??lol you welfare-bred nothing. Floyd can't even string together a proper sentence. I hope Conor destroys the scared little pillow fighter for breakfast on the street.
Amen. Not only that, it's big-time BORING to watch a couple of guys rolling around on the ground. Duller than dust. Boxing will ALWAYS beat this boring pseudo-sport, hands down.
