Prior to this, they were 3 x 3 minute rounds.
Well, at least this is the case in Ontario, Canada.
I'm just hearing this now, and i'm fighting on Sunday.

Has anyone else heard this, or is it only here?

I'm fairly certain this will work in my favour, so i'm not worried. Just a little surprised.

After all, i've been keeping well with my wall sit routine, so conditioning's a-ok.

Have any of you heard this too?

I can tell you that this is not the case world wide and this must be a one off for this event if it even happens

From my understanding, it's all bouts going forward. Though, I'm not sure if it's only in my province or all of Canada.

Either way, i'm pumped about it. It's gonna separate the casual boxers from the serious ones for sure.

What would you guys prefer.... 3x3 or 5x2?

Around my way, it's 3 x 2 minute rounds for the novice class.

    5x2?!

AFAIK Elite male amateur boxing is universally set at 3x3 by the AIBA since years.
Sounds like some local/regional boxing body over there is doing whatever they want? :huh:roll:

Haven't checked the AIBA website in a while but I highly doubt they've changed it to 5x2. At some point it was 4x2, years ago.

Good to know. Sounds like a local thing then.
I wasn't even able to try it out...opponent pulled out.
(6th or 7th opponent to pull out this year - WTF....my bad luck or what).
I had a replacement opponent, but it was the standard 3x2 novice class bout.

I switched gyms, I used to go to a gym that cost 85 dollars a month. the gym was so nice, but it was more catered for the general public that wanted to work out and learn a little boxing. I soon found a gym that was in a fire house and funded by the city. more serious boxers..and better knowledgeable trainers.

From my understanding, it's seniors with a certain amount of experience and ability.

I went on a 2 day coaching course earlier this year and nobody was 100% on the different weight of gloves, head guards, age classes, open class v intermediate etc etc including the official running the course.
As I understand it, its now minors are 10 and 11
    School boys 12, 13, 14
    Juniors 15 and 16
    Youths 17 and 18
    Elite 19-40

Elite no longer wear head guards.
The only improvement underAIBA seems to be that the referees let the boxers take a bit more punishment than they used to.
