My question to everone on ESB, is what is your definition of an elite fighter 2nd question did you consider Jermain Taylor an elite fighter be4 he got ko'd? Give examples of 2days elite fighters
There are different degrees of "elite" if you will but this designation is normally reserved for those who place very highly in the overall rankings. Otherwise, there would be only 4 or 5 guys in all of boxing that could be called elite.
I have two different rankings or systems if you will... The Pound for Pound Elite (Top 20 Pound for Pound) Examples: Mayweather, Calzaghe, Pacquiao, Cotto, Hopkins, JM Marquez, Hatton, Vazquez, Calderon, Pavlik, Wright, Kessler, Diaz, R Marquez, Klitschko I would describe these fighters as "one of boxing's elite" The Divisional Elite (Top 5 in a Weight Class or Beltholders) Examples: Cintron, Katsidis, Bute, Solis, Sturm, Forrest, Alcine, Margarito, Malignaggi, Chagaev I would describe these fighters as "one of the ________ division's elite"
ok thanx 4 the knowledge BK. I view elite in another way. Its like Basketball 2 me Kobe Bryant is an elite player, Tracy Mcgrady elite but you cant say Gilbert Arenas is on there level. Hes nice, but ELITE I dont think so. Pavlik needs more fights against big competition be4 I call him elite. Thats kinda how I view elite. Elite means 2 me that you are above and beyond every1 in your division, and Pavlik is not that 2 me, not in my eyes. Elite fighters (Prime)Pernell WHitaker, Roy Jones, Floyd Mayweather, Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield just 2 name a few Do you see what Im tryin 2 say, am i being unreasonable by not saying Pavlik is an elite fighter?
Yeah, I get your point. It's definitely not unreasonable to say Pavlik isn't one of boxing's elite yet. Because he's certainly not as good as Mayweather, Pacquiao, Calzaghe, or Marquez.
exactly, nto saying he cant get there, but right now he is not elite. He is very good but not elite. And the lil pavlik hugger wasnt tryin 2 understand wat im sayin. I like Pavlik hes tryin 2 makin it seem like im just a hater by saying that. He needs 2 all back, let pavlik breath
My own definition of an elite fighter . . . is a fighter who has consistently stayed on the creme of the crop level and who has fought the best opposition available. For me that's elite.
For me elite are the best of the best. Those who have the unique skills that put them one level above the rest of the competition in a historical sense, and generally those who have the resume to back it up. anyways like anyone else, who i choose to be elite is partially subjective. It takes more than 1 or 2 successes to be recognized as elite. You have to get to the top, and then remain there. If 2 elite fighters square off and one of them loses a close fight, they can both remain elite. For example Floyd Mayweater, Hopkins, Pacquiao, Calzaghe, etc. For me, Taylor was never elite. Pavlik is not elite yet either. JMM is not elite. Barrera is elite. Wlad, not elite. Lewis, elite. etc.
that incorporates into my definition as well. Its a lot that go's into it. But as of right now, Pavlik is not elite to me. He is the middle weight champ, a very good fighter, but not elite
Pavlik still deserves a shitload of props for winning the middleweight crown, but he showed alot of faults against both Miranda and Taylor which lead me to believe his reign will be short-lived.
