I think Mosley is better when he boxe's, Pacman has good boxing talent and Valero was nothing like a boxer. Also Ward being a boxer after the green bout im not too sure.

Unlike Pacman, Mike Tyson was a REAL boxer/Puncher. Mike could do it all, and was a serious student of the science. :yep

Honestly, His Velero's fight with DeMarco was the first time I actually took note of Velero. The man got elbowed in the forehead opening a HUGE gash, YET Demarco known for his boxing skills was unable to capitalize on Velero's injury because he did such a great job boxing defensively, countering, rolling, and turning DeMarco in the center of the ring. His boxing abilities actually outweighed his punching ability in that fight. :good

Pac, on the other hand takes alot of punches with his style and Mayweather is going to tag that face frequently, often, and continuously. In reality, Pac's boxing ability is even less than Shane Mosley's.
Pacman makes Shane Mosley look like Sugar Ray Robinson.:yep

Surprised no one has mentioned Tyson. He had a good job in his early days, but forgot about it somewhere along the line.

a really good jab is one that can go above, under, around and down. not many fighters can adjust like that. alot of fighters, elite or not elite have subpar jabs. de la hoya, based off of his height for his weight class made him seem to have a dominant jab. same with ali funeka.

Roy Jones is one of the best fighters I've ever seen... but his jab was pretty feeble. It was especially dire in the 1st Griffin fight if I remember rightly.

Calzaghe was never an elite fighter, by my definition of 'elite'.

Yuriorkis Gamboa??? What if he ends up winning his next fight (against Rojas or Salido for unification?), then beats Juanma, but still doesn't have a jab just as he doesn't have one now. Would you call him elite then, or just good?

I love Roy's amatuer jab, but he kind of ditched it when he turned pro. He should have held onto it. Maybe could have kept Tarver under control even if it's not saving him v Johnson.

McGrain got it in one. RJJ actually had a great jab during his amateur years, but he let it languish...

Williams has a mediocre jab, which sucks because his arms are long as hell.

great point about williams jab. he'd be a monster if he had a good jab. it seems like all his punches are arm punches anyways.

Very good point. The thread is more about how there are some elite level fighters that have almost no jab at all. Or the one they use is pathetic. But your definition of what a good jab entails is good.
