I can think of some disappointments but no real FAILURES at the professional level. Keep in mind that I'm only talking about ELITE-LEVEL AMATEURS(OLYMPIC MEDAL, GOLDEN GLOVES, ETC). I'm trying to settle yet another debate here about the basic connection between success at the amateur level and basic success at the professional level. :good

harrison is perhaps the biggest flop

gold medal and then everything went down hill

he alone killed boxing on the biggest channel in england the bbc. the bbc paid him like 5m pounds for each fight for years because they fell for the hype. since then only sky sports has taken any boxing matches, every other channel says goodbye

BBC are apparently still paying the price for that deal as they paid him in instalments and still are

hopefully one day we will see big boxing fights on free tv

Courage Tshabalala was another guy who was supposed to be a HW destroyer but didn't do much at all...

Although Audley ripped the BBC, I blame the idiot wh0 offered him the deal. They need experts to make decisons like that.

Mark Breland was more than a disappointment. I know he won a world title, but that was a pittance compared to his talent in the amateur ranks.

What was the deal with Mark Breland. I know his amateur achievements ect and what he did as a pro. Did he have a glass jaw?

Big time. He was compared to Hearns when he turned pro. Tall, rangy, with an awesome right hand and a very good jab. But he lacked strength and his chin let him down.

Sort of, but in all fairness he got KO 'd by some really good fighters. I mean Vaca had sick power at that weight. I think the real issue is that he didn't met expectations as a professional even though he was physically gifted.

Breland is easily the biggest disappointment. You could argue he was the greatest amateur ever - he was being compared to Ray Robinson and his name was more well-known than most pro's before he'd made his pro debut. To say he failed to live up to the hype is an understatement.
