I love the concept of Prize Fighter, but the purse of 25 grand will not tempt the cream of the division. Imagine if there was silly money on offer and perhaps put in in a bigger Arena with PPV to fund it

British Heavies - Haye, Skelton, Williams, Harrison, Sprott, McDermott, Maccarioneli & Hide. Over 3 rounds would you bet against Hide?

International names - Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, Golota, Moorer, Tua, Shannon Briggs and Butter Bean - Freak show, but you would watch it

I don't think the big names would degrade themselves to take part in a 3 round slugfest.

And yes, the second bunch is a freak show.

When 'Super fighter' was proposed in Australia over a year ago they had some good names linked, but I think the promoter had cash problems, and the venue apparently moved to the states, but the show never materialised.

There was a show in the states about 15 years ago which was won by Tony Tubbs

Elite guys don't need the exposure or funds to even contemplate doing the 3 round winner takes all format.

It's the journeymen of the boxing world who sign up for that kind of tournament

Jeff Thomas would bite Barry Hearn's hand off if he was given the chance to be on Sky TV to be on Prize Fighter, that sort of level......

That's not an attack!!! Lomax is a decent fighter and he went on Prizefighter, as did Pele Reid, a respectable Heavyweight

Thomas would have been mad to say no to Mr Hearn and his offer of TV exposure had it come his way pre-retirement

I think the concept is ****, and needs to be scrapped.

It was OK for a one-off, but they are seriously overdoing it having one every five or six weeks.

The problem is actually the quality of the competitors, which is a terminal problem for the concept, because top performers will not take part in it.

It gets too scrappy and crude.

That's why The Contender is the better format of the two shows....not just quality of opponents which is key, but also spreading the show out showing an episode every week allows for 8 or 10 round fights where it becomes less of a slug fest and more of a boxing match.
