Choose whatever words you like pal. Once they get in the ring there’s nowhere to hide. That’s why a GREAT boxing match remains the finest spectacle in modern entertainment. Nothing comes close.
Spot on: I’ve got a sneaking suspicion big josh is going to put it all out there and go out on his shield tomorrow, could be a real barnburner for as long as it lasts.
Nah. Maybe 30 years ago, not now though. I can't remember the last fight I saw where I thought this is the peak of human performance and entertainment value. As an event and achievement, 100 Meters > Boxing match. Nothing comes close to seeing somebody attempt to be the fastest human in history. That's an astonishing feat to happen before your very eyes.
TRUE Elite are FEW, i.e Sugar Ray Robinson. Great are many - Champion's & Contenders alike. Top & Noted fighters are many also. 3rd tier and Club fighters and the rest, are the thousands & thousands of fighters throughout boxing history.
I enjoy the 100m but disagree. Boxing, fighting, is another level of toughness, mental strength, skill, putting different things together. It’s insane the speeds they do, boxing different though. Anyway there’s different types of peak physical performance, strength, speed, endurance
You're comparing apples and oranges. The Olympics is the ultimate in athletics. Same for gymnastics and swimming but not for boxing. You also have to factor in that it's always shown on terrestrial telly whereas boxing is always on cable or PPV. I'll wager more people watch PPV boxing than watch Diamond League athletics.
Even as a stand alone event or just from an athletic perspective, I rank it much higher than Boxing. The fastest man on earth is exactly that. There's only one, unlike Boxing where there's multiple champs in one division.
So you would go on YouTube and watch Usain Bolt or Hagler Hearns. You can’t compare the two, seems a strange analogy to me.
I just think that a high level Boxing match is the be all and end all when it comes to sporting events. I'd rather watch the 100 Meters, weightlifting etc.
More people watch golf than boxing, that doesnt mean golf is watching "the peak of human performance". Boxers have to be able to be explosive but show endurance, strategise, take pain, dish it out, make weight and go through adversity unmatched in other sports (bar mma). 100m is impressive, but getting in shape to run really fast for 10 seconds doesnt compare to going to war for 12 rounds.
Many people go twelve hard rounds. And? How many actually becomes THE fastest person alive? Very few. Oh, your favourite boxer? He probably golfs...
A question was asked in our local to name the best sportsman I have ever seen live. Having watched some of the greats live at Anfield plus Messi, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo and Tyson Fury - none of them came close. Eldrick Woods by a mile and nobody will ever come close.
Many people run fast for ten seconds, we just see the elite of the elite in that Olympic final. Boxing governance is fragmented and daft I agree, but the weight factor in boxing means you’ll never be able to say the same thing as “that’s the fastest man”, But boxing is much more physically and mentally demanding and more impressive, for reasons listed previously.
