If he was courageous and smart he'd fight 3 times a year instead of just once. He'd make even more money.

But we all know that isn't what he wants. He wants EASY MONEY.

Basically, what he is saying is "I will fight in megafights that sell millions of PPVs, and Cotto is not in that level yet".

That is what he thinks and he is probably right.

No one should have a problem with that...It's his life and his decision. However, if you someone wants to say "then you won't climb higher on the ATG list", then I would agree.

Maybe he could fight twice a year. The promotion and marketing of the fights he wants to fight take a lot of time.

Very few fighters at that level fight that frequently.

What will be your excuse when Floyd angles for a Hatton rematch early next year instead? Time to stop supporting **** match-ups, I say.

Fighting twice in 2007 and likely once in 2008 is horrendous for the guy we consider to be the P4P best in the sport, who is only 31 years old.

Calzaghe is 36 and he had two fights in 2007 and already has had a fight this year 2008.

Kelly Pavlik is much younger at 26, but he had 3 fights in 2007 and will have completed 2 fights before this summer is out for 2008.

Pac another one. 2 fights in 2007 and will soon be 2 fights in 2008.

Nothing is stopping Mayweather from making as much money as possible. If he truly believes he can beat everyone at 147 he could have lined up two fights this year, with one of them starting a new campaign at 147. And next year he could have capped on that with two more fights at 147. This still including the DLH mega money fight.

This is why the excuse for seeking out the best paydays doesn't hold water. He could still do that and still take the fights we all consider to be legacy fights.

PBF is a very insecure prima donna that constantly needs reassurance and that's why he's always seeing himself higher than he really is...

His credentials do not top RJJ's... anyways !!

Thats want he wants, but he didn't get that with Hatton in the US, because all British sales were to Hatton and plus he got the US SALES. sO LIKE MOST ARE SAYING, HE IS COMING UP WITH EXCUSES

My only hope (and the chances are small) is that Oscar somehow produces the knock out the world has been waiting for .I got love for MW respect his skills and his status P4P but he is in need of an ass whoopin ..A good old fashioned ass whoopin where after the fight the only releif is a cold stake !!!!

you know, this actually makes a lot of sense. Floyd knows he doesnt have the large fan base he claims and is not that big of a draw. So he wants Cotto to build his up even more so together, they can do something decent.

    I can handle that idea.

Most fighters in Mayweather's level fight twice a year.

Fighting only once is horrendous, I agree. But also rememeber that Mayweather wanted to take a break from the sport (after the Hatton fight he said that he wanted to be out of boxing for 8-12 months).

Your ideas make sense. He could have fought twice in 2008, and twice in 2009. Maybe fight De la Hoya, Cotto, Quintana and Mosley.

But I'll say it again: he wanted to take a break.

I don't like his idea of taking a break and only fighting once this year...But it's his life and career and he can do what he wants.

Floyd is the best boxer I ever seen, but Floyd downfall is that he has no one educated to help him on ****. So with the lack of education someone im his crew, eventually he wil make a bad desicion. Plus Ellerbe will leave Floyd and probably take all his money and find another fighter. Floyd is to dumb to realize that ****. Which is why I feel as if he will end up like Mike. But the thing i people feel sorry for Mike. They wont be the feeling like that for Floyd thats for sure

what you have to realize is that it doesnt matter one bit whose name the "average person" knows. i say this b/c the average person is not going to buy a PPV unless they are a boxing fan. the only people who buy PPV fights are fight fans, media people, or people whose friends are fight fans. All of these people know who Cotto is just as much as they know who Floyd is. so just b/c people know Floyd's name doesnt equate to them knowing anything at all about boxing, yet alone does it mean the fight would make more money.

But when Hoya fought Mayorga and had over 700,000 thats when I realized if you have fans, people will support you no matter what. Floyd just doesn't have fans, but he does promote himself well.
