Perhaps in a year or two. Who would pay to see that trash now. Unless, Canelo is not weight drained, but then Floyd would take away his jock strap or something...LOL
One of the reasons Floyd-Maidana failed to sell 1 million ppv buys is that Floyd-Canelo was such a letdown for a fight so hyped. Ironically, Maidana made it waaay more competitive than Canelo. I doubt a rematch with Canelo sells half of the first fight, even with the mexican fanbase.
I think you and pretty much the entire boxing public is confusing excitement with closeness. Canelo - Floyd and Maidana - Floyd had identical scorecards. They were both equally competitive!! (but in a different way) Maidana was much more of a threat to hurt Floyd and did hurt him early on, while Canelo decided to attempt to outbox Floyd, which is a totally different fight strategy. And when you throw into the hat the fact that Canelo was weight drained due to Floyd's absurd 152 lb demand, in retrospect it was impressive what Canelo was able to do to Floyd. Floyd Canelo though as a fight wasn't a letdown. It was entertaining and it set PPV records. The fact that Floyd vs Guerrero was such a box office flop and the fact that Floyd vs Maidana did not to nearly as good as Floyd vs Canelo shows how much of a draw Canelo is! If Canelo rematched Floyd at 154 (not 152) I would give Canelo a slight edge to win the fight, because he probably would be more aggressive the second time round especially after seeing what Maidana was able to do to Floyd. (and Maidana has slower hand speed than Canelo) Closeness and exciting are two different things. Maidana brought a more entertaining fight style to Floyd, but also punched himself out a bit and it showed in the 2nd half of the fight. Whereas Canelo (even after cutting weight to make an absurd catchweight) was much fresher down the stretch.
This fight should be at no weight lower than 160. Canelo lost the fight because the game plan he was using was one of energy conservation. Basically he was trying to box with Floyd (which would conserve his already low energy) rather than press the attack (which would have been impossible to maintain for more than 2-3 rounds considering how drained Canelo really was). Canelo looked a little tired in the Angulo fight which took place at 155! Imagine what draining all the way to 152 must have done to him. Canelo at 160 would simply press the attack relentlessly.
What i meant is that the Canelo fight was so disapointing that It actually hurt the Mayweather-Maidana PPV sales. After watching Floyd dominating Canelo soo easily, and Maidana being percieved prior to the fight as a lesser threat to Floyd than Canelo, it´s easy to see why It failed to even crack the million buys. Dude, is there ANYTHING you saw in Floyd-Canelo that makes you think Canelo would do better a second time? That´s basically the key element to sell Floyd-Canelo II to the public, specially mexicans. There´s no way a rematch sales as much PPVs as the first fight.
It seems that Ellerbe needed someone that would give Mayweather huge PPV buy one more time taking into account the relatively poor PPV showing of Floyd-Maidana. Getting Khan, Broner and Collazo couldn't do the trick so they want the try and tested formula of getting Canelo again. They knew that paying Floyd $32M a fight while giving undercards like Broner and Khan huge chunks are not profittable for their promoters/partners.
