Sorry I know the definition of the words I use.

Might scare you girly floyd fans into another fit of emotional mayweather defending, but for me it's just a sentence.

Yeah, they failed to generate the PPV buys they wanted.
    Failed.

    Failures.

    A big ****ing fail.

1.4 does not equal 3. It's not even half.

Yeah, Ellerbe might be trying to put a positive spin on the numbers.

What's the big deal though, the difference from the last reported numbers is only about 200k.

Great numbers but fell short of expectations. End thread.

So by throwing out a number and not meeting it, you can automatically attribute that to be a financial failure.

I'm pretty sure golden boy knows what they are doing. And what they are realistically expecting. 3 million I can tell you now they was not expecting.

You really think they believed shane mosley could draw more buys than oscar dela hoya? You think they that stupid?

Promoters do their jobs and the good ones do it very well.

I would consider this as mucgh a respectable number as Pac/Clottey when you consider how much more money was spent hyping this fight, the 24/7 and the fact that Mosley is a bigger draw than Clottey, when all these are taking into consideration i say this number is as good for this fight as the Pac/Clottey fight got for that one.

1.4mil sounds accurate...although this is coming from "Ellerbe" so we probably need HBO to confirm the official numbers.

That said 1.4mil shouldnt affect the 50/50 split with Pac. Pac did 1.2mil in his fight with Cotto and no doubt, Mosley-Mayweather got a lot more promotional backing, possibly generated that extra 200k.

I dont think Richard was being relaistic when he said they could do over 3 million. But it does show that this was a well recieved fight, which is very good for boxing!

Wow - if this is confirmed, these are great numbers, and unfortunately for the rest of us, this will make the negotiation for a Pac/Mayweather fight very difficult. If Mayweather really doubled the PPV numbers of the Clottey fight, there's no way Ellerbe and Co. take a 50-50 split.

Well you'd have to take advertising and star power into consideration.

Mosley may got first class treatment.

    Pac/clottey didn't even get a 24/7

In fact, at the weigh in, espn.com had a crawler on the bottom that said "pacquiao vs cotto weigh in"

I think you missed the key term in my post.

I will repeat it once more.

By throwing out a number and not meeting it, you can attribute that to a FINANCIAL FAILURE?

That my friend is impossible to do when you don't know how much money was budgeted and how much money was INTERNALLY Projected. These are realms which are all knowing forum powers have no knowledge of.

The same way Schaffer said this is the biggest promotion of all time, it just the same as him saying we getting 4 million. Do we take his word for that or is it just SPIN?

1.4 million is a DAMN good number! Regardless of the promotion, regardless of the opponent, 1.4million is strong! Mayweather has branded himself in a way that the general public GETS his style which isn't a mainstream type style. I have to say I am very impressed by this number and Floyd SHOULD receive a larger portion of the proceeds in a fight with Pacquiao. Floyd simply sells the fight.

I remember going to a Floyd fight in Fresno and watching him go 12 rounds with Victoriano Sosa and HBO was about fed up with this guy. He couldn't sellout a high school gym at that point and HBO was basically guaranteeing this guy 2 to 3 million a fight at the time.

His talent wasn't gonna be enough to turn himself into a mainstream attraction. He's turned himself into a dominant PPV attraction and he's done it his way. He's succeeded where, Roy Jones, Shane Mosley, Pernell Whitaker, and alot of other VERY talented and under appreciated boxers have failed in terms of PPV #s. He lined up the fights and took on the certain fighters at the RIGHT TIME and he should continue to REAP the rewards of such. Without his antics, without people tuning in to see if he can be shutup, it won't do the numbers the SUITS at HBO want. It's that simple.

I doubt GBP had 3 million buys in their financial forecasts or spoke of it in meetings. But anyway, Schaefer was dumb to say those numbers but I think he was trying to make Pac/Clottey numbers look like dirt at the time.
