Please don't pretend mosley and cotto are equal stars in order to make your point for a fair split.

Did you read the definition of failure or are you seriously trying to argue with point with me?

Yeah, I can say i'm going to get a job making 100,000$ a year, but when I come back and say I got a job making 80,000, that's still decent money, but I failed to get a job making 100,000$. That is a fact. There is no argument.

I failed. I ended up with a 80,000$ a year job. That's the definition of fail. How is this going over your head?

Overshooting like that is a huge mistake. You don't intimidate people when you say 3 million buys, you make them laugh.

I don't yell "hey guys, i'm going to go vegas and come back a millionaire!!" and then come back with 2,000 dollars expecting be called a success.

2,000 dollars is cool, but it's not nearly what I thought would happen.

Now schaefer looks like an even bigger idiot.

What would be the point in throwing out targets you think you have no chance of meeting? You will only look stupid when you don't get close to them. You make it sound as if Schaeffer was being some sort of wise guy.

    Promotional disaster.

If even Ellerbe -- Floyd's guy -- can't spin the numbers up to 1.5M, that is a very bad thing.

Balls-out on this promotion and you're only talking like 100K or so more than Cotto-Pacquiao. Unbelievable.

Huge fail. And I think Floyd didn't clear the advance on his PPV take until around 1.2M buys or so.

Now I see why Team Mayweather might actually start to talk with Pac: If they don't, where can they go? You know people dont want to see Floyd's fights of themselves, they're not compelling.

Mayweather has made an entire career off of drafting from other fighters' heat: Gatti, De La Hoya, Hatton. He's more a mirror than a light source, he reflects rather than creates heat.

No bigger star in the sport than Pacquiao if one is looking to reflect someone else's heat. Magic Hatton and Martinez won't do the trick.

Fellas, the Mosley-Mayweather fight's failure may actually force the hand of Fearful Money May. Stay tuned.

Pacquiao doesn't need anyone. The only reason people were upset with the Clottey fight is because they want Manny to take fools out and Clottey wouldn't comply, or even try. But there aren't a lot of Clotteys out there with the tools to hold Pacquiao off for 12 rounds.

Mayweather, on the other hand, needs a partner. Preferably a partner whom the fans think can actually beat Mayweather. So much of Floyd's draw comes from people who want to see him lose that if the opponent doesn't seem credible, the public won't care. Again, they're not tuning in to watch the "Pot-Shot-A-Go-Go" stuff. That doesn't sell.

Martinez isn't likely to be a guy who people will take seriously as a Mayweather threat. Ditto Berto and the rest.

Floyd may need Manny now, and we'll see if that realization is enough to help Floyd give up the PED security blanket demands.

    Should be interesting.

You are right! Floyd is smart he knows how to promote his ass off and lets be honest his style isn't attractive to the casual fan when you compare him to a Tyson or even a Pacquioa. Even Jones who was incredible to watch wasnt a PPV attraction!

So he has to be given a lot fo credit and if he fights Pac man you know his trash talking will go into over drive and this will generate more interest and therefore more PPV's.

you get it. We don't know what they projected internally. It was likely on the conservative side. All the rest of the hyperbole is simply part of the marketing game. Anyway you slice it, $54.95 @ 1.2-1.4 million is a lot of money to spread around.

Did you really believe you were going to get a 100k job? if you did then that will determine the reality of your answer.

If that does 1.4, I think we could expect Pac-Floyd to exceed 2 million. Seriously, the fight needs to be done. If the purse is an ego thing, let the winner take 60%.

Schaefer believed it. Otherwise he wouldn't have set the record for advertisement of a boxing match.

    Oscar believed it too.

    Remember guys.. 1+1 = 1.4

Even though I have said multiple times 1.4 is a good number, I definitely realize it's a failure for GBP. They should have paid off the critics to pick mosley.

Not at all. Schaffer was hyping the fight. Theses guys aint stupid, they wouldn't be where they are today if they was.

There is no evidence that this fight would ever do 3 million buys. I also saw him quoted as saying it could do 4 million. This is hype and im sure the majority of people were wise to it including yourself.
