Anyone saying a minimum of 1.4 million is a failure need to reevaluate what failure really is. That's the second largest non-heavyweight fight in the history of boxing.

So schaefer was basically ruining the credibility of himself, oscar and his promotion over 1 fight that they knew was going to do half of what they were saying?

They were perfectly fine with selling themselves out to get the buys up from 1.1 to 1.4 through lying?

You'd have to be an idiot to think that.

Is 1.4 the highest grossing PPV of all time?
Did it set the PPV record.

Under which mathematic principles does 1.4 = 3?

How does that hype the fight? Everyone who was gonna buy the fight bought the fight, irrelevant of what the CEO of GBP said the fight was gonna do. 90% of fight fans won't have even known about the 3mill target.

You think that Schaeffer going about telling people the fight was gonna do 3mill buys caused more people to buy it? Are you ******ed?

He was wrong, GBP were wrong, they overestimated the draw of Mosley & Floyd, plain and simple.

That's not to say they are not great numbers though, because they are, but still, they only got half of what they wanted.

Their failure comes from not being able to meet or even come close to their stated goal.

How has he ruined the credibility? He just generated the 2nd highest non heavyweight ppv in boxing history.

His Public prediction for the bout was way off. But how much of that was down to marketing spin. All promotors do it. Arum also did it with Pac v clottey. He said that fight would do more than cotto and it didn't.

If you think Schaffer has lost credibility so be it. It wont be the last time he make outlandish predictions to the public.

Didn't oscar just say he believes floyd is the greatest of all time. I guess he means that to? It's called SPIN.

you are not only a boring, repetitive twink living in denial, but you lack basic math skills. Didn't clear 22.5 mil until 1.2 mil buys? Huh? Not only would he have cleared that before 1.2 million, you are aware of other revenue streams such as the live gate, site fee, theater and closed circuit, right? His guarantee is coming out of those $ as well dummy.

It may not of reached Schaefer's goal but lets be realistic none of us expected it to anyway.

Can we just all agree that Mayweather is the biggest active PPV draw in boxing and leave it at that?

Because he knowingly deceived the boxing audience with fraudulent claims?
    That is what you're implying.

You're implying he was actually predicting 1.4m buys while saying 3 and 4?

You know they set the record for promotion during this fight right?
    To only barely outdo Pac/cotto?

Come on man, you don't believe that ****. Schaefer was a fool and he way over estimated this thing.

His PPV numbers are directly proportional to the number of people who believe the guy he is fighting stands a chance of beating him.

I respect your opinion. But if i tell you that a fight gonna do 3 million ppv buys, it delivers a statement that this event is gonna be the biggest fight in televised boxing history. It means that the world will be tuning in for this great occasion. It means you should get behind this fight or you gonna miss out on a moment in history. It's all bull**** spin to sell and promote the fight.

    ........

    Sure worked well.

More promotion than oscar vs floyd and 1 million less buys.

the only failure is your inability to provide sound, reasonable evidence that GBP failed. It's an illogical argument.

Are you serious? People on this board were raving about how this fight would shatter the ODLH-PBF records. Hell, even when the weak ticket sales reports inevitably started coming back (the attendance was something like 2k-3K below capacity; contrast that with the 50K+ Pacquiao did with Dud Clottey), people still didn't want to move off of the "record-setting" prediction.
