This fight is a failure. It failed to break the PPV record like it was predicted. It did a solid number, but is obviously a let down.

When 1.1 came out initially I laughed. I thought it was a joke.

1.1 would be a very bad number, but 1.4 is okay, and there was also people who were predicting the fight would not come anywhere near the record.

This will be eerily reminiscent of Antonio Tarver vs. Roy Jones Jr.
Antonio Tarver figured out that Roy Jones cannot fight in tight quarters, and when you rough him up, he gets rattled. After Tarver exposed Jones, his loss percentage spiked because every fighter who fought Jones after Tarver knew exactly what to do. Yes, age caught up to Roy, but Tarver had proven that Jones was never really that good to start with.Floyd Mayweather will suffer the same fate. When Mosley presses him and starts to hurt him, Mayweather will begin to unravel, and when that happens, Mosley will crank up the pressure, and Mayweather will suffer his first defeat, probably by knockout.

Imagine those Tyson numbers before without those illegal scramblers, they could have easily beat the 2.5M mark.

Here's some context for what I said, and where things were before the fight.

    * Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather did 2.4M PPV sales in 2007; so the "record-breaking" reference is basically to this fight

    * Steve Kim's "poor ticket sales" report came around 4/28/10; the fight was held on 5/1/10

I'll try to find some more, too. This is pain-in-the-ass research, but it's all out there to be seen.

    Cotto-Margarito 450,000
    Cotto-Mosley 400,000
    Cotto-Judah 250,000
    Mosley-DLH 1 590,000
    Mosley-DLH 2 920,000
    Mosley-Vargas 420,000
    Mosley-Cotto 400,000

Cotto has never done over 500k. Their numbers outside DLH are the same. Cotto's biggest ppv is against Margarito, then he was an undefeated top Puerto Rican fighter facing the invincible Margarito. Everybody expected fireworks and it had the classic Puerto Rico vs Mexico theme to it. His 2nd biggest buys is against Mosley.

The 2 could not be more even in terms of drawing power.

The difference. Cotto was coming off a lackluster performance against Clottey and a trashing against Margo. Mosley was coming off an anihilation over Margo. That and the fact that the promotion for Mosley-May was so big, Mark Taffet, Richard Schaefer & Ellerbe all thought and said it would break the record which was 2.4mil.

People are saying Cotto is a bigger draw than Mosley as it's what Roach said as his reason for fighting Cotto rather than Shane, although I do think them picking Cotto is more to do with the highlighted part of your post.

The difference for me between Cotto and Mosley is that Cotto is a PPV draw where as Shane isn't a draw but a very respectable dance partner.

Note: This is why no one take you seriously, bro (lillarry). As I said on the other thread. Pathetic effort here.
