His fights are more exciting because they are more competitive.

He could have made the fight with Diaz less competitive if he chose to clinch, but he didn't.

Mayweather would undoubtably clinched when Diaz worked his way inside.

Then again, Mayweather would also move more effectively when cornered against the ropes, something I think Marquez could have done better.

I think it's Floyd's style of fighting that makes these aspects of his game just not that important in his fights (combination punching, jab) I think Floyd is capable of putting together great combinations, he just has gotten away from it....also, Floyds jab is amazing, he just doesn't utilize it enough. JMM kills you with combinations and sets them up and measures them with the jab.

The footwork? I think people just say Floyd does everything better then everyone else almost by default, without really thinking about it. Am I completely positive JMM has better footwork? No, not at all. But his footwork is amazing, and it's fresh in my mind from this last fight. Look at the finish in the 9th round, also look at his footwork in the 8th round. His footwork was perfect, so I can't say anyone has better footwork then him right now. :good

I think JMM got caught on the ropes too much when he should have moved away. I think Mayweather has him in the footwork category, but JMM is very good.

As far as combinations, JMM definitely gets the nod. And he does use his jab more so I'll give him the edge there. But, given that Floyd and JMM threw the same amount of combinations or jabs, I think PBF might grab the nod in both.

Footwork is my biggest beef. No way does Floyd get trapped on the ropes as much as JMM did in his bout. Still, JMM does utilize his feet well. And I also think it was partly intentional that he laid on the ropes because he was landing blistering counter punches. Tough one to debate really.

Good point, but Hatton had Floyd on the ropes as well. Delahoya had Floyd on the ropes alot. Diaz was putting very effective pressure on.

Honestly, I might seem like I'm nuthugging right now, but it seemed like JMM was going to the ropes intentionally looking for counters. There were moments in the fight where he actually wanted to escape and he spun Diaz around like a top, ducked out and was behind Diaz before Diaz knew he was gone.

    I agree with that.

JMM was on the ropes alot, but against Pac he really wasn't. I think it was more a credit to Diaz, then a hit on JMM for that. Diaz might be getting underrated a bit. He looked very good sat night.

I don't know, I may be off base, maybe I'm just reaching. In the end though, Floyd would whoop his ass due to size, speed, strength and skill :deal

Ok, jmm vs pbf. Obviously floyd has the advantage point blank because of the weight, but I dont care what anyone says, it would be on hell of a fight that Id love to see.

I pick jmm in an upset (ok fine, pbf will probably win.)

I don't mind the praise for JMM. Very deserving. And I agree entirely that he may have been intentionally laying on the ropes. Especially since he knew that stamina would be an issue in a bout with Diaz. JMM put on an amazing performance.

I think Marquez stayed on the ropes sometimes just to show that he was the harder fighter, especially considering the theme of the fight was non stop action, and absolutely no clinching.
