Round 2

McDonagh is jabbing into the forearms of Nieroda. Straight combos put up by McDonagh on the frontfoot, Nieroda laying still and letting him tee off. Long right hooks tried by McDonagh, staying out at mid-range but growing less and less cautious as Nieroda gives him very little argument. Nieroda is flurried onto the ropes and ricochets off them after sagging down into them a bit for buoyancy, coming at McDonagh with a right hand lead but telegraphing enough for McDonagh to hop back. Right jabs and 1-2s forked in by McDonagh.

McDonagh looks better than his record, like a sharp prospect.

Of course the Prizefighter loss to Eamonn O'Kane is no great shame, but how did he find a way to lose to old trial horse Tommy The Tiger Tolan? :blood

That was early days for McDonagh, less than a year in the pros, so obviously he is an improving work in process.

 

Round 3

McDonagh is putting out his arms, turned undersides outward and held at length to catch the left jab of Nieroda. Right jabs snapped in between the gloves by McDonagh from mid-range, stalking Nieroda around the ring. McDonagh is catching Nieroda's jabs and 1-2s on his left palm, leaving it hovering by his chin for such an occasion, while sticking the right jab out and walking Nieroda down. McDonagh traps Nieroda on the ropes and flurries with right hooks and left uppercuts, missing as Nieroda shells up and flops around wildly, upper body writhing in every direction.

Round 4

McDonagh is penetrating the guard of Nieroda with left hand leads shot from a side-cradle down by his ribs. Sharp right jabs by McDonagh, cutting the ring off and staying in Nieroda's face. McDonagh pushes out with his right forearm crossed horizontally, making sure Nieroda can't rush in and tie up while feeling out range for his jab. HARD left hand lead on the body from McDonagh and Nieroda tumbles on his butt. Nieroda looks at the ref incredulously, playing off like he slipped. Uh-uh. McDonagh is feeling the job, whipping inaccurately at Nieroda as he pins him on the ropes with flailing right hooks that Nieroda is able to slip while flopping around with his gloves up. McDonagh rearranges his footing and switches to orthodox while pressing Nieroda into a corner. BIG RIGHT UPPERCUT BY MCDONAGH, SPLITTING RIGHT THROUGH NIERODA'S GUARD!! Nieroda slumps by the ropes into a seated position, chin to his chest, asleep.

McDonagh improves to 10-2 (5).

Nieroda falls to 12-7-1 (7).
