Anyone remember this one? A real high stakes, crossroads fights between two of the most decorated and underappreciated lower weight talents of their era, and it could have just remained a dream match... But no, we got it.

It makes for a bit of an odd watch now given how by the wayside both the careers of Eloy Rojas and Wilfredo Vasquez Sr have become within the boxing community, as we've moved away from that era of lower weight fighters and boxing has... changed. No one actively discusses the era much anymore but Vasquez himself was one of the last bastions of a great time in the sport, with his name linked to giants of the era like Miguel Lora, Antonio Avelar, the galaxy brothers, Raul Perez, Israel Contreras, and Orlando Canizales.

In my opinion, a completely underappreciated effort on the part of the much smaller, here 35 years old Wilfredo Vasquez, who's entire career was on the line against a fine, established champion at a weight that obviously suited himself more than the blown up Vasquez. Rojas had the youth advantage at 29 years old.

This is a fight where you can really appreciate the effort of each individual fighter, and you can really see the skills that Rojas has developed at this point in his career, after having spent that time being a globe trotting, have belt will travel to defend kind of champion. Watching how Rojas nullifies the pressure, aggression and power of Vasquez is impressive, especially with the calmness and skill he goes about it early on. Like I said, both fighters shine in their own respective ways and it's great to watch.

Just trying to get by I guess....and you really can't do better than concentrating on the lighter divisions....they've always been my favorites. I get so sick of the heavyweights...especially today's heavyweights.

You going to give this one a watch, PP? Rojas was a criminally underrated operator. Check out some of his defensive moves and look at all the travelling he did to defend his belt...

3 rounds into a very enjoyable scrap!

Rojas has youth, speed, reach on his side, and uses his skill very well for the first 2 rounds. A nice snapping jab, which he hooks off of very well several times. He is doing a good job keeping at his range, and when Wilfredo gets inside he still fared very well. He has a nice uppercut inside that he scored with a few times as they mixed it up. Vasquez lands some solid body shots and seems almost exclusively focused there, but not scoring enough to take either round.

Round 3 starts the same way, but a minute in Vasquez is in range and has the timing down. No longer letting Rojas dictate the range or pace he is scoring good inside to the head and body, his jab looks real strong inside, mire than it did at midrange or long distance. Rojas is still fighting like the first 2 but missing and getting blocked this round.

Rojas 2 rounds to 1 with Vasquez having adjusted in the 3rd. Interested to see if Rojas can adjust and adapt in light of round 3.

Interesting fight...round 4 sadly is missing so I don’t know if Rojas adjusted or if Vasquez continued to score big inside or even another dynamic.

Round 5 awesome and fun round to watch. Rojas seems to be jabbing well again but lacks just a little snap and pop on it. He seems comfortable inside again making Vasquez miss when he loads up. Vasquez scoring good inside but Rojas holding his own nips the round.

6 Rojas is actually backing vaszquez up and backed to the ropes seems to be taking a close round but Vasquez lands some big shots in the final minute stunning Rojas for a second but finished strong enough for me to score Vasquez

    Rojas 3-2 after 6 (minus the 4th)
