Anyone have any idea who this guy is? Sounds interesting enough. Seems to be one of the more variable boxers in the last few years, capable of some pretty amazing things when he gets his **** together. Anyone?
Watch his fight with Ray Oliviera, he does not want to hurt Ray, he knows there is something wrong with him, a Godd Class act by Emannuel
He's a brilliantly talented and extremely entertaining fighter whose extremely bad luck and poor self-discipline have cost him the chance at a world-class career.
For starters, he gets treated like **** by the judges and refs, and is often robbed of deserved decisions.
Is it something along the lines of Whitaker syndome, with him screwing around during fights and being cocky? What fights has he been robbed of? Any come to mind?
Check out Augustus vs Courtney Burton I believe it was. Clinic by Augustus, yet robbed of the decision.
I do. He never got the proper training or management early in his career and was thrown to the wolves, he's been consistently matched against an immensely tough caliber of opposition throughout his career, and he's been flagrantly robbed by referees and judges countless times. Watch his first fight with Courtney Burton, and you'll see more or less the archetypical Augustus fight- Augustus, an apparent journeyman with a mediocre record who, in fact, possesses an incredible amount of talent and skill, is called in on short notice to face a ranked contender on the contender's home turf. He soundly outboxes the contender, absolutely making a fool out of him at times, is badly inhibited by a disgustingly biased ref (the referee calls a clean knockdown by Augustus as having been caused by a low-blow at the end of the fourth, ignores Burton's consistent, flagrant headbutting and rabbit punching while repeatedly warning Augustus, apparently just for being showy, at times visibly glares at Augustus during the action, and deducts a point from Augustus' score in the eighth round when all Augustus did was spin around while separating from a clinch [atsch ]), dominates the fight nonetheless, and is sickeningly robbed by the judges in spite of having won nearly every round of the fight.
Yep, the ref deducting a point from Augustus for that spin was one of the slimiest things I've ever seen. Ridiculous. He didn't spin the opponent or anything, he simply turned for a second, and the ******* ref deducted a point.
