The commentators were bandying that word around pretty liberally too. "Awkward" is a very polite and flattering euphemism for "having little to no defense and very widely missing a vast majority of punches"

Carlos Monzón was a legitimately awkward (in a good way) fighter. Navarrete is a ridiculously slow crappy boxer who just happens to be heavy-handed enough to club away more skilled guys with decent chins.

 

Yeah, sure, my poor uneducated little rube's peepers simply could not comprehend all of nuanced prestidigiation of his. Can't be that he is actually very sloppy and unskilled but can fall back on being tough and heavy-handed to wear down superior (and often smaller, as I suspect Navarrete is a natural lightweight boiling down) opponents...nah, that'd be too simple an explanation.
