If you’re losing the early rounds to Navarrette you’re screwed. Villa is screwed.

He ran into an ugly upper cut in the very first round, I can’t help but feel he’s going to start getting pounded later

    Round 2

Navarrete is using the Dempsey/Golovkin shift, alternating between orthodox and southpaw while marching Villa down, extending jabs over the head and then scrubbing his neck with straight rear hand power lunges. Villa is barely able to pop off a couple of right jabs while gliding in retreat, putting most of his energies into defensive movement and picking off what he can, trying not to absorb too much with his feet squared given the obvious physical strength advantage of Navarrete.

    10-9 Navarrete

    20-17 Navarrete

Move up in weight seems to have done done Nav. some favours. Villa looks like quite clearly like a right handed southpaw, unfortunately for him...

    Round 3

Navarrete is walking into some pinpoint counter right jabs from Villa, now up on his toes and getting into a rhythm. Good job making the adjustment here and denying Navarrete the proper range for his power shots, either dancing beyond reach or skittering inside and zapping Navarrete with quick jabs between his eyes before slouching over to his side and slinking outside again. Villa boxing quite beautifully here, playing matador and scoring while not really getting hit in return. Navarrete loading up on shot-put rights, churning the air. Villa is able to catch a wayward Navarrete overhand right on his inner wrist, smacking it down just inches from his chin.

    10-9 Villa

    29-27 Navarrete

    2. 10-9 Navarrete
    3. 10-9 Villa

He really did the whole matador thing well. What he needs to do and of course it's very hard is come in more at an angle.

This thing is done. Sad because I think Villa is good. Navarette is just too strong for these guys at 122 and 126. Physically overwhelms you.
