In a quote from Geoff Ciani's Interview with hall of fame trainer Emanuel Steward, he was asked how he believes Hearns and Leonard would fare in today’s welterweight division, and he said this.....

"Beyond any doubt I think they would dominate. I think Tommy and Ray are superior fighters than the fighters today in the welterweight division."

Do you guys agree with how he feels Leonard and Hearns would do in today's boxing?

First off, thanks for the plug.
    :good

Well, the top welterweights today are obviously Floyd and Pacquiao.

I have to say, having recently watched both Hearns-Leonard fights recently, I tend to agree with Emanuel. I think both of those guys would beat both Floyd and Pac--I truly do.

That's not to say I do not believe Manny and Floyd aren't great fighters, because I believe they both are great. I just think Hearns and Leonard were both something very special at 147 and I think they are both a cut above Floyd and Pac as far as welterweights go.

  4. Mayweather Jr. would knockout both Hearns and Leonard if they fought in this era :!: fighters today are stronger, faster and have better skills then the fighters 20 -30 years ago. Pacquiao might have problems with Hearns size, but besides that, most top 5 guys in today's welterweight division would dominate the era those guys fought in.

Assuming that they have not fought the P4P rankings would look like this.

    1. Ray Leonard
    2. Thomas Hearns
    3. Floyd Mayweather
    4. Manny Pacquiao.

Based on their acatual fight Hearns might win a 12 round decision over Leonard. Mayweather wins decively over Pacquiao.

Hearns/Mayweather would be interesting. The physical advantages belongs to Hearns. Mayweather has the Higher boxing IQ.

yeah, hearns vs mayweather would be like mosley mayweather round2, all night

  11. What sir is your problem with what I said? It's a stated fact that Mayweather is far more skilled a fighter then Leonard is :!: Just look at how both fighters fought in their 30's, and you will see that Leonard was nothing more then a early to rise fighter that did not have the skills to beat guys like Terry Norris and Hector Camacho as soon as he lost a little bit of speed, and this is a sign that the fighter was lacking the skills beyond his athleticism. Mayweather could be 50 years old and still find a way to whip both those bums. As for Hearns, his chin was horrible and Mayweather would treat him the same way he treated Diego Corrales. You people need to step out of fantasy land and deal with reality, and in reality Floyd would handle both Hearns and Leonard with relative ease.

    I think he would, too.

Although, I think ripcity is right. Floyd almost certainly has the higher boxing IQ and Hearns, I believe, has a very high ring IQ in his own right.

I think Tommy's physical advantages would give Floyd all sorts of problems.

Roger himself has mentioned On the Ropes Boxing Radio that Hearns would give Floyd trouble. He also mentioned another time on the show that Forrest would have been the toughest fight for Floyd at 147 from the guys of his era because of his size and solid fundamentals.

Forrest, IMHO, is a bit like a poor man's Hearns in a lot of ways.

Anyway, I truly believe that Hearns WOULD dominate Floyd.

In a lot of ways, I think Floyd would have a better chance against Ray than he would against Tommy.

You sir, are completly delusional if you really believe that :!:

  15. No, it would be like Mayweather vs Corrales, only quicker.
