I think you have to take in modern day training and supplements that modern trainers are on.

I always like basing it on natural talent. So if Suger Ray L was around in this era, he would have the training from todays era.

But either way, SRL from the 80's still beats Berto.

Agreed, when I get old I'm gonna tell anyone who'll listen about the 7 foot Monster known as Valuev who could destroy any heavyweight of any time.

This is the funniest post I have read for quite a while. Naturally, when I realised you were being serious, it became even funnier.

If Mayweather had faced Hearns back in the the early 80's, they'd still be looking for FMJ's remains, today.

These old geezers are stuck up cows, nothing good happens today so Hearns & Co are heroes for life.Mayweather is a great athlete and he would stand his ground.Manny Pacquiao throws too many wild punches and he would be cannon fodder. The rest of the guys aint all that

Leonard and Hearns i would favour over them for sure, but they wouldnt dominate Pac or Floyd at all. These would be great, epic and competitive fights imo.

people reminisce about their era in boxing and draw upon past greats to enhance their belief in their sport - it's part of what makes us attracted to it and follow it.

    it'll always be the way.

some people shunned ayrton senna's brilliance in formula one when comparing him to fangio, but there came a point when his ability (especially in the wet) was unquestionable.
schumacher also had a poor sense of sportsmanship and a huge ego which didn't endear him to people.

in the era of fangio, SRR ...whatever sport...you're always going to deal with an 'amateur era' where the money wasn't that great and great sportsmen performed because it's what they loved doing.
there's a more ugly side to sports nowadays which makes people forget how to be noble and to rise above pettiness - the world cup was a classic example of that.

so people have to remember that part of the fondness and romanticism of our early sporting greats is embellished further because they rarely had the negative public stigma attached to our modern greats.

it does alter our perception when we compare sportsmen from different eras.

No ****, there is a massive gulf in skill and talent between SRL and anyone at 147 and hearns and everyone today at 154, their respective best classes
