i love how people are calling nostalgia and old time fighters and such

these fighters are from the ****ing 80's and 90's, how delusional do you have to be about the state of boxing today to say that FMJ would KO Hearns and Leonard

Agreed. Its not a knock on Floyd or Pac to say they would loose to Hearns and SRL because those guys started at 147, they were bigger fighters, that was their prime weight.

Its just the same with SRL and Hearns when you move them up to say 160 and how would they do against RJJ then they dont look as good though they are competitive. Pac and PBF would be competitive but they would loose.

The only people of say the last 5-10 years I could see winning against Hearns and SRL would be Winky at 154 and Hopkins at 160. Today they would beat everyone at 147-160.

Yeah theyre more skilled than everyone out there today, period. They are naturally bigger than PBF and Pac even though both of those guys are highly skilled. And then the bigger guys like Margo, Williams, Martinez, Pavlik all of those guys are too open defensively to compete. Williams can be rocked, Mosley showed just how open Margo is. Martinez is fast but he leaves his hands low and I feel he will do very badly against anyone that is faster than him, it will be like Paulie v Kahn, he is so used to keeping his hands low and getting away with it and will still try to do it but get beat to the punch every time against a fast fighter.

And not just skilled, they are physically more talented. Tommy has the reach, power, and boxing skill. SRL has pretty much everything, he's as close to a complete fighter as you'll find in the last 30-40 years. At welter they would rock the **** out of everyone else in the game.

I have to agree with the TS here as well. Mayweather and pacquiao could NOT win against these beast at 147. Put simply there were skilled if not more skilled and were far bigger. Both leonard and hearns would climb up further weights before retiring.

Having just rewatched hearns-leonard 1 i have to so those guys would smoke alot of fighters today. The only ones providing competition would be pacquiao and mayweather. I base this on actual footage ive seen of the fighters.

Especially SRL. Blazing quick speed and reflexes. Devastating power. Could fight in any way and a bombproof chin. I just dont see how any WW today could match that.

    1. Hearns
    2. Leonard
    3. Floyd
    4. Pac

In today's boxing, at WW, Hearns would effectively come in the ring as the version that obliterated Duran. Remember he only lost to Leonard in the 14th. and most feel he whipped his ass in the rematch years after. I think the extra weight after rehydration favors him. So in the interest of keeping it short I will give my analysis of Hearns only, keeping in mind Leonard is just as (and in some minds moreso) lethal.

Against Mayweather... People forget that Hearns was actuallly a boxer. He was not just a crude brawler. He had actual boxing skills superior to those of Shane Moseley and Vernon Forrest, and would undoubtedly crack Mayweather at least a few times with the right hand. Done. People like say his chin wasn't very good... but at WW it was decent enough to take what Floyd would deliver. I honestly don't think Mayweather has much of a chance in this one, but his defensive prowess would keep him in the fight a little longer.

Against Pac, I just don't know where to start. but I do know where Pac would finish. Hearns is a tall fighter, who actually used his height to box with deadly efficiency. This fight could go a lot of ways, leading to the same ultimate fate. I think it resembles the Duran fight, as Pac gets caught early with a right hand (shock) that is nothing like that of Joshua Clottey's. Nothing. And Hearns finishes him. or... Pac could try a Hagler. If you think he could have survived a round like Hagler-Hearns Round 1 then I want some of what you're smoking...

Not to take away from today's guys, but if you give these two guys modern training and nutrition, along with the advantage of rehydration, I just dont see where Pac anf Floyd have a chance.

    Unfortunate NOT!
I'm so tired of hearing this unsubstantiated nonsense, but unfortunately, many on this site have no clue as to the science of boxing.

Dr. Iron fist, you say that todays fighters are faster, better, and stronger than fighters of the 80s/90s.

is it your contention that if you hooked up Leonard and Mayweather to measuring machines, May would have a faster jab, throw faster combos, and have more pounds per square inch of force?

because I would have to respectfully disagree on all counts.

There is not a fighter today that would beat those two. The last guy I give a chance to even trouble hearns is Tito or Hoya at WW. NOBODY since Hearns and Duran would come close to beating SRL though!

I agree with Manny 100%. Tommy Hearns or Sugar Ray Leonard or Marvelous Marvin Hagler would ****ing steamroll any WW right now. Yes that includes Floyd. Imagine Floyd Mayweather Jr opposite Tommy Hearns. Stop and think deeply about that......Floyd would get the ****ing LIFE pummeled out of him and probably leave on a stretcher.

Mayweather would KO Hearns. He was a tall freak with a suspect chin who had the IQ of Joe The Plumber.

Mayweather would beat Leonard as well,he was a great but is over rated like most things from the 80's.The Atari had me geeked yo!!Best game system ever!!OHHH the nostalgia.Pole Position is soo much better than Need For Speed.

Everybody knows Leonard was on juice. When Mayweather makes Leonard come off of the stuff,he would be exposed.
