JENNA: Alright well let me get your analyst views on a couple of upcoming fights this weekend and it’s the heavyweight division. We don’t usually see heavyweight fights on television, but the two of them will be on the Epix channel. That would be Alexander Povetkin against Ruslan Chagaev and also you got Sergei Liakhovich against Robert Helenius. Do you think either of those two fights will impact Wladimir’s future as far as opponents?

STEWARD: I think yeah, definitely! Out of those fights somebody is going to have to wind up fighting Wladimir sooner or later just based on the way that the business is right now and with the shortage of heavyweights. Helenius I think will win his fight. He’s basically and fundamentally sound and he’s been fairly active compared to Liakhovich. The other fight was Povetkin, and that’s a really, really tough, tough fight to pick right there but I would say Povetkin should win that fight, also.

JENNA: Alright now speaking of Alexander Povetkin he will be going for the WBA regular belt. In your opinion what does this belt mean if Alexander even wins it?

STEWARD: I think it’s a disgrace to boxing, not just because of this because it’s the heavyweight division. When you have a world champion and then you’re coming up and creating another world champion. I thought I was the world champion? No, we just gave you a title. You’re the super champion, or you’re the platinum champion. Boxing is so confusing with four major boxing bodies and four champions, and now you’re going to start splitting it up and having two world champions in the same weight and same organization. It’s totally a joke and it’s an embarrassment to boxing. There is so much confusion that if I wasn’t just in boxing at the level I was, just as a general fan in the public, I wouldn’t have any interest any more. There is too much confusion already. You were the WBA champion. Povetkin wouldn’t fight Wladimir Klitschko because he never thought he was ready, so they created a situation where he can still fight and be world champion without fighting Klitschko and they did the same thing in the WBC where they gave it to Julio Cesar Chavez Junior and they created a situation where he could be a world champion without fighting a world champion. If we continue to do this, boxing is having its problems already except maybe for just the super fights, this doesn’t help us at all.

I think 99.9 of the boxing fans agree's. With exception of Teddy Atlas and Povetkin.

Yep! I find it difficult to believe that ANYONE would disagree with what Emanuel said below here:

And we got these regular WBA belts being contested for at 140 (since Khan unified) and 168 (since Ward and Froch will unify) and of course with Wlad unifying with Haye.

    Ridiculous!

Povetkin himself said to me and Jenna on this week's show that he basically didn't care about his detractors and that "a world title belt is a world title belt".

In fairness, that's the attitude I guess he NEEDS to embrace, but this is seriously a total joke and Emanuel's right, it's an embarrassment too.

Regular WBA belt is as important as the IBO or USBA belt when someone in the same division already holds the "Super" WBA title and should be ignored as such.

The super champion concept is bull**** and the third champion just another layer of bull**** on top. For a long time people have thought cockroaches would be the last living species. It's time for a rethink. Boxing world titleholders will soon outnumber them.

Belts are sales tools. I can guarantee you that if Ronald Hearns somehow beat JCC Jr. that Manny would not advise Ronald to dump the strap because it is garbage. I guess that fight is off now though.

What I would like to know is how a WBA Regular Championship will affect any eventual purse split between Waldo and Povetkin. If Povetkin wins. Is it considered a mandatory challenge or is it something more than that?

I don't like all the championships myself, but the WBA regular title is nowhere near as disgraceful as the IBA Champion, the WBF Champion, The IBU Champion, or even the IBO Title that Wladdy holds. At least the WBA title puts the man in line for the Super Championship fight. The other so called world titles do nothing for lining up future matches.

The WBA HW Championship is also not going to be any less than it has been since Wladimir officially won it the 1st time. Any of you out there who considered David Haye any more of a champion than the winner of this fight should be shot. Wlad won this title when he eliminated the undefeated champion Ruslan Chagaev. The subsequent line of champs in Valuev and Haye were 100% frauds as well.

And to be honest, the WBA title being done the way it is, is making Wladimir a ton more money than if it did not exist. Wlad vs Haye when it was 1st signed was small potatoes, it grew into a monster because of the WBA Charade. I believe the same thing will occur if Povetkin can win this title. People will be much more hungrier for this fight than if Alexander had challenged for the IBF title right after he won the tourney.

If Manny would like to make a statement, he should talk Wladimir and also his brother into dumping all of his titles. They could make a strap called the K2 HW Championship and it would be the most legit thing on the block. They could use the wasted sanctioning fees to put better undercards on. Wlad would also gain an incredible amount of popularity, as would Manny, if they led the charge of dumping all of these championships into the shitter.
