I remember in the HBO telecast of Hatton vs. Collazo, Steward mentioned that he was a friend of Hatton. Now that questions are being raised of Billy Graham's future with Ricky, how about Hatton with Emanuel Steward as his trainer?

ever since the collazo fight ive felt haton needs another trainer.. hatton does have a lot more to his arsenal than hit and hold but since zoo something has changed. before the urango fight graham was training hatton from an orthodox stance when urango is a southpaw - that's just absurd, and he was advising hatton to just tie urango up in the later rounds when it was obvious hatton could easily outbox him. similarly it is obvious that hatton has abandonned anything approaching a guard for several fights now and no good trainer should let their fighter fight like that.

manny steward however is not the right trainer for hatton

Manny can't help everyone - just look at his time with Jermain Taylor.

Just because he's a Hall of Fame Trainer - doesn't make him the right trainer for any & everyone.

I have also been thinking for a while that he needs another trainer. He should at least try it. If it doesn't work, go back to Billy. It's pretty plain to see that the strategy he used for Dec 8th didn't work. I myself am no boxing expert, but I can certainly pick a thousand holes in the style Ricky is currently employing.

He used to have it all -- good agility, footwork, hand speed, power, heart, patience, you name it. Where did it all go wrong? I think he should stop concentrating on putting on an entertaining show, stop allowing himself to be ruled by his fans, and change his style so he's less predictable.

I always knew he needed to keep the pressure up against Floyd, but do it in less obvious ways than bum rushing and coming in square. It's what was expected, and it's why he got picked off and pot-shotted all night. Me, I would have used angles, plenty of head movement, and tried to change styles every few rounds to stop Floyd working out my patterns. Box, dammit!

So yeah, unless Rick and Billy can work on a completely new strategy he should try another trainer and probably drop Kerry Kayes.

I'm not sure that would be the best of choices. Emmanuel works better with taller fighters that use the jab.

if hatton keeps fighting how he does he's going to end up seriously hurt - if graham cant get him to change then someone else needs to

What an avatar. I hate at times when fighters lose and they get another trainer usually the "Flavor of the month" at that time (McGirt, Roach, Jesse ferguson, and of course the infamour Manny)..

If fighters go through mere camp with a new trainer, it'll make little to no difference. A fighter needs to be with a new trainer for well lets call it a "BURN IN PERIOD" before going into camp to unlearn the habits or absorb the new habits they'll try to incorporate.

The problem with Manny is he rarely to EVER makes committments like that with fighters in addition I don't think he has the answer for everything as he believes..

I think its a good idea actually, none of Billy Graham's fighters ever seen to have any defence (ie the Hatton bros, Matthew Macklin, Carl Thompson) they're always in wars.

Go train with Buddy McGirt or Manny Stewart, see if they can help him.
