Emanuel Steward to be Hatton's next trainer?

The "name" of the trainer doesn't matter. What matters is "DOES THAT TRAINER ADDRESS HOLES IN RICKY's fight game and improve upon them".

It's something an even up and coming trainer could work with Graham on. Ricky's problems are

"Lack of Head movement"

"Lack of adjustment"
"Very predictable style" (he's going to come in straight"
"Bad movement" (he moves in straight lines which opens him up)

I do personally want to see Junior Witter tap that ass but I think Ricky can still be an elite level fighter if he's willing to address these weaknesses.

i think eddie futch would have been ideal for hatton.but of course that can't happen.

 

graham did nothing wrong. hatton is just limited. a trainer can only do so much.

 

Stewart would be an AWFUL fit for Hatton.

Sorry, but I don't see any "wikid boxer"-ing into that video. Yeah he's boxing as opposed to pessuring (the Tzyu fight), or running in with his hands down trying to break his opponents fists with his head (the Mayweather fight), but what he's doing there doesn't look any better than what he tried to do for the first few rounds of the Urango fight. He may have abandoned boxing a bit recently but don't delude yourself into thinking he used to be a better boxer.

I think personally Buddy McGirt would be a great choice. If he can teach Gatti to box (see his fights between Ward and Mayweather) a bit, i'm pretty sure he could teach Hatton! Also McGirt really plays close attention to the amount of punishment his fighters are taking, which given Hatton's terrible efense, would really benefit Ricky so he doesn't take too much punishment in some fight later in his career.

Also out of curiosity, someone said Steward doesn't make commitments to his fighters. What do you mean? Sure he's had some fighters he was only with for a short amount of time (Hamed and Taylor obviously), but I don't really see these as his fault. Hell, Taylor didn't even follow Manny's instructions in the ring. I remember watching Taylor-Wright and feeling so frustrated watching Taylor, because Manny was telling him straight up "If you stay in the middle of the ring you will win the first!". And then Taylor lets himself go to the ropes again and again! How did this happen btw? Jermain was stronger than Winy, and surely he has better legs, right?? Was it just Taylor's stupidity letting it happen?

That's true, but as for Hatton's case I think he needs to learn how to fight in the inside without trying to clinch all the time. His style fits more of a brawler type, using head movement to get into the inside, while pounding to the body, kind of like Tyson. Changing trainers doesn't work out for every fighter, but for Hatton's case I think it would, and he's a good person that listens. (unlike Taylor) Kevin Rooney or Pat Burns would do wonders for a guy like Hatton. But at the same time I think it's a little too late to change trainers. But in the mean time, Graham has to change his ways, because charging in on an opponent isn't always going to be effective. He neeeds to get some better sparring parnters.

If it's mutual (between Hatton & Graham) , I think it may benefit Hatton to bring someone else in. If it would be an acrimonious split, I would hope he'd stick it out and not lose a lifelong friend
