Hearns supposedly was a very light handed fighter before Steward got him from the am's. Did he train G-man from the start?
u sure? Iv read in the 'Four Kings' about Steward putting in Hearns in his first sparring session, about travelling with him for am tournaments etc He worked the corner for Ray Leonard a few times as well i think when he was fighting for the US
5min Mark. Manny Stewart did buld up Hearns from the start. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_w-nWu_ViE[/ame]
I think his skill level has improved, he approaches fights with a lot of variation but his footwork, punching technique and defence are absolutely horrible for someone who has been boxing as long as he has and to the level he has. A clear example, like Pac, of someone taking full advantage of their talent but not getting the most of it ala Mayweather.
There is nothing wrong with Khans punching technique, but his defence is horrible, and I believe he has issues(crazy as it might seem for someone of his speed), with his reflexes. He simply cannot get out the way of punches, and I think this is why he appears to be macho and favouring to go to war. I just think that as fast as he can punch, his brain cannot react to punches coming, or simply doesnt react quickly enough to get he signals through to move. Look at Mayweather, his opponent even flexes to punch, hes already reacted. Tyson at his best was the same.
forget that "from the start" bull**** The best trainers are the ones that world champions are in demand for ! they have proven credentials at the high level, That's all that counts. Joe calzaghes dad trained Joe as could many guys train him he would always be a champ a trainer only does so much. maintaining and repairing top champions-consitantly - is a lot harder. a trainer that looks to make take guys from the child level to the top- doesnt have to train world champs
I rate Manny highly and agree, was just replying to Top Dog's post about Manny. But spot on you are :good.
It will not make the slightest difference who trains him, Khan is too dim (in boxing terms) and too arrogant now to benefit from Steward because according to Khan he is a "superstar" and a "legend of the sport". It was all good in the first year of two with Roach, Roach was "the best trainer in the world" but Khan gets levelled by Garcia and now it is Roach spending too much time Pacquiao that is the problem. Steward may well help Khan pick up the pieces but as soon as Khan gets anywhere top level again or picks up another world title then he is back to square one. the arrogance will start to flow, we will hear "superstar" and "legend" quotes from Khan and he will get levelled again and it will be Stewards fault because he spends to much time with Wladimir or Andy Lee.
