“I look at Manny as a lightweight and he’s dominating the welterweights and now fighting at junior middleweight. His real weight, his true weight I think is 138 pounds,” Steward explained. ”The rest of his pounds they just fill him up.

It’s kind of crazy, all that a blown up lightweight has been accomplishing. He’s been responsible for great fights against other great fighters.”

HBO is probably pulling the strings on Steward to say this because Pacquiao is going to be on Showtime.

everyone knows that Nate Campbell, Casamayor, and Juan Diaz would've been the ones to take Pac to school

If there were only 8 divisions; Pacquiao could have still taken the flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight, lightweight and welterweight crowns (5 divisions of the original 8), 6 if he wins against MW champ.

Here are his possible opponents at original weight classes:

    1998 Flyweight(112 max) - Sasakul
    2001 Bantamweight(118 max) - champions(Veeraphol Sahaprom, Pauli Ayala, Tapia)
2003 featherweight (126 max) - champions( Barrera, Morales, JMM + guys at SBW)
2008 Lightweights (135 max) - David Diaz, Juan Diaz, Nate Campbell + guys at SFW)
2009-2010 Welterweights (147 max) - Miguel Cotto, Andre Berto, Mosley, Mayweather + guys at LWW (Hatton, Bradley etc)
2011 at Middleweight (160 max) - Sergio Martinez, Dzinziruk + guys at LMW (cotto, spinks, etc)

how many fighters do you think would have done the same in their entire career, from flyweight to welterweight and middleweight? do you think it would be easy? cherry picking guys above your natural weight class?

Emanuel Steward is a great and intelligent guy with a lot of smart things to say. The hack writing this article gives us two quotes from him and then gives us two paragraphs of old, endlessly debated opinion and drivel. Very disapoint.

I agree with the article. Pac is a cherry picker. Until he fights Martinez at MW and Ward and Froch at SMW, I will call him a ducker and a cherry picker.

For all we know, Pac will cherrypick Floyd for his next fight. Pac knows that Floyd has a brittle hand and hence he will have another easy fight against Floyd.

One does not really have to outright dodge someone these days to cherry pick. There are so many divisions, titles, and so much politics involved, a fighter with enough popularity and clout does not have to face the hungriest and most dangerous opponents.

Post JMM2, it has become so blatantly obvious with Pac that these matchups no longer have much, if any, intrigue. The Cotto fight was his last intriguing matchup, IMO. However, it's been the same formula throughout, in his move up from SFW...come forward fighters with porous defense at lower points in the careers, with size as their only true advantage.

Tell Floyd to find his urge back so that Pac can fight someone with a different style.

You basically want Pac to fight only the best everytime he climbs a new division. That speaks a lot about Pac.

Tha same Nate Campbell that Robbie Peden stopped twice is beating Pac?

Diaz doesn't fair that much better than Campbell either.

Casa Pac is a great fight though - Battle of the southpaws - Would have been very interesting.

You went back an extra 19 months for your comparison. I said 2 years (which I guess wasn't totally accurate - it's been 2 years and 3 months since Pac-DLH).

These are Floyd's opponents in the same time window where Pac is accused of "cherry-picking":

    Juan Manuel Marquez
    Shane Mosley
