"One half of the most important MMA fight of all time, Stephan Bonnar, was live at an MMA show in Bourbonnais, IL this weekend, and recorded a fight out of the sport's Jurrasic era."

I've seen more stylish fights in hotel carparks.

Hats off to the old guy though :good

The kid was winning until he ran out of gas. But damn, that older guy and his big saggy gut have some staying power!

This one of the things i hate about MMA. Every c*nt that's watched a few UFC fights thinks they're a fighter.

The fat old man is much bigger than the kid, if I'm 53 I'll take on a kid 3/4 my size.

I know plenty of boxing fans that are just like that, it's not particular to UFC fans. In fact I would just say it is symptomatic of young men watching sports that revolve around fighting.

But those boxing fans aren't on the club circuit and neither are they duking it out in 10 round bouts. I can't remember the last time i saw a geriatric lace em up under Queensbury rules...Can you? ...

A problem I have with MMA is only a few practitioners can bring some aesthetic to the sport. BJ and GSP on top form make the sport look great, other fights can look very messy. MMA still has a lot of developing to do.

The striking can sure improve but the grappling will never be aesthetically pleasing due to it's nature, barring a flying triangle/armbar or something along them lines

You will have to turn to sports entertainment for that I guess

Yeah, exactly! Being a "fighter" is considered cool and macho, so a lot of young guys, with their testosterone-fueled ego's and arrogance, love to be able to strut around in their Affliction or Tap-Out T-shirts and play the part of the cocky, tough, bad *ss fighter! But I do notice this type of behavior more with the MMA guys than with any other form of combat!

Even at my local LA Fitness gym there is a group of these arrogant guys, hopping around and throwing practice punches and kicks and doing their shadow boxing routine right in the middle of the workout floor!:bart

Plenty of boxing fans are on the white collar boxing circuit, many of which will have a mentality no different from those we are referring to in MMA. As for geriatric boxers, there was one recently on the front page of ESB, his name slips my mind but I'm sure he was older than this MMA fighter (and the OAP boxer proceeded to get beaten badly). Also, there was that case of a boxer fighting his own father in a professional contest. Pathetic contests happen in boxing too.

Here's an example of a fairly recently active ancient boxer (2008 ), he was also 53 at the time:

...oh and for the sake of light-hearted historical interest, here's the late Joe Frazier fighting at a charity match in 2006 (!):
