Gaspar Ortega was one tough hombre. I remember watching the Griffith fight in 1961. Ortega had just beaten Benny Paret a few months before this fight while Paret was still welterweight champion. And he lost a close decision to Carmen Basilio in January 1961. He sure took a pounding from Emile in this fight in round 7. To come back for 5 more rounds is incredible.
I was noticing the shoulder expanse on Griffith and the upper muscular development. He looked to be very powerful at this time in his career. I recall that after the fatal bout with Benny Paret he just never was the same fighter that he was in this fight with Ortega.
