I know it's different weights, but it's hard to a imagine a man who outpointed Dick Tiger to lose to Whitaker, slick as he may be.
Sorry, but that's a completely inept comparison. Not saying Griffith couldn't or wouldn't win, but how does that matchup have any bearing whatsoever on this one?
Griffith's win over Tiger in '66 has always fascinated me as a boxing fan. I think it's his best performance, despite being as close as it was. Griff was great that night out boxing Tiger using a consistant, disciplined strategy, decking Tiger for the first time and smartly outboxing his man...and was 10 pounds lighter than Tiger!!
Griffith would win. He was as crafty as they come and in the end his bigger size would see him edge it.
draw each fighter would edge rounds with neither gaining a clear advantage judge one to griffith by 1 judge two to whittaker by 1 judge three dead even
Obviously from my last post I think that Griff would beat the pea narrowly on points...he was too strong and resourceful for Whitaker, IMO.
I feel Griffith would be too much for Whitaker, who whilst still being very good at Welter was not the same fighter he was at Lightweight.
