This little fellow concerns me. I happened upon a few fights of his recently, and I was not as impressed as I felt I should have been. Obviously the board consensus has him very high, at the top portion of all welterweight fighters. And having only footage of him against middleweights Rubin Carter, Joey Archer, Nino Benvenuti & Carlos Monzon, a division up from his prime weight, it was my secret opinion that he was merely an above-average fighter with a timid sometimes outright timorous workrate. Now I'm not unfamiliar with his history, how he was supposedly more aggressive pre-Paret, but having now seen quite a few selected rounds of Griffith-Paret the trilogy, when previously I had only highlights, I find that I still can't rank him beyond the likes of Mosley, De La Hoya & McLarnin: all borderline-greats but a shade under Robinson, Gavilan, Leonard, Ross, Hearns, Napoles & Mayweather Jr.
