The next date and opponent for the 41 year old legend are set, per MP Promotions chief Sean Gibbons yesterday, provided that DSG gets past Ivan Redkach in 3 weeks' time. García has long headed up the shortlist bandied about publicly by Pacquiao's team since his victory over Keith Thurman; a list that has also included Errol Spence, Jr. (prior to his debilitating and temporarily sidelining automobile crash; Spence himself claimed on live TV he won't be cleared to fight again until summertime), Mikey García (who is coming off a loss to Spence, and next seeing action versus Jessie Vargas on February 29th), and Pac-Man's own former sparring partner Shawn Porter. A rematch with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. has also been playfully teased in the media, but that can has been kicked down the road for an entire half-decade since they first met and rumors of that stripe ought to be taken with a grain of salt - even when started by Mayweather himself. :sisi1

The ostensible mandatory challenger for Pacquiao's belt is Yordenis Ugas, but nobody expects him to face the unpopular (and not very lucrative a draw) Cuban. García is ranked WBC & WBA #2, and WBO #1.

    Common opponents:
    • Keith Fitzgerald Thurman, Jr. won a competitive SD over García in 2017 and lost a competitive SD to Pacquiao in 2019.
    • Brandon Lee Ariel Ríos lost a wide UD to Pacquiao in 2013 and was knocked out in 9 by García in 2018.
    • Érik Isaac Morales Elvira lost to García twice in 2012 (by UD and KO4) and defeated Pacquiao via UD in their first encounter in 2005 but was knocked out in both the rematch and rubber match in 2006.
    • Lucas Martín Matthysse lost a competitive UD to García in 2013 and was knocked out in 7 by Pacquiao in 2018.

As for the reason for the specific date, the Senate of the Philippines will be in recess from March 14th until May 3rd, so this date gives him optimal training camp time while not bogged down with affairs of state. May 2nd is technically a Saturday available within that window, and falls close to Cinco De Mayo (traditionally a weekend marked by major boxing events) - but a week to heal from a fight seems more prudent than a day, especially for a man in his forties.

Tough fight for PAC, very tough fight.
Durable, young hooker garica could have PAC in trouble.

It gave me an intracerebral bleed, an intraventricular bleed, an intraparenchymal bleed, an subarachnoid bleed, syphilis, an epidural bleed, an subdural bleed, progeria, multiple sclerosis, vasculitis, Lou Gehrig's disease, Prader-Willi syndrome, a torn sphincter, Down syndrome, some wicked acid reflux and a priapism. Thankfully they all passed relatively quickly, I was a little worried for a second.:sisi1

Speaking of penile fractures, the six-toed Lego haired goon has a decent shot at the "upset" here.

Also, on a side note butt.
Middle names are not really necessary for two biggest names of the sport.
I think Muhammad Ali previously know as Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr would agree.

I got Pac on points, providing he shows up like he did for Thurman, which is definitely no guarantee at this point. I think his in and out style and being a southpaw works well against Garcia and his left hook. Pac may have to use his right more though.

I've always thought Pac to active, busy and mobile for Danny to beat him. Eventually Pac is gonna slow down, I'm very curious when he's gonna hit the wall though, not certain it'll be this fight. One thing of note, Danny is a very good counter puncher/catch and counter guy. He thrives off guys that come to him and throw. Pac does have issues with counter punchers so there is that wrinkle.
