Emmanuel Steward: "Freddie Roach needs to be TRAINER, not a PROMOTER"

An excellent point.

 

The funny thing is, Sugar Ray Leonard used to say the same thing about Steward. Steward's rep at the time was he was as good as self-promoting as he was training fighters.

 

Errr no. He is a good friend of Pac and he has to help sell this fight. Id be more dissapointed in him if he started comdemning the fight. Its signed, he does whats best for his pupil and friend.

Roach versus Steward who wins lol...?

 

If anyone has a conflict of interest it's Steward with him being a trainer and commentator. He's part of the hype machine, part of the problem. It's ironic that Steward would bring this up, considering his past and present.

I love Manny but Freddie is right. Pacman would beat Cotto easily again. Manny can get Cotto a little sharper after seeing the tape of the fight, but he cannot turn that into a win. Cotto will end up getting into a war after 2 rounds and Pacman will win in about 5 rounds this time.

I don't think Steward is bothered by Roach's popularity or his confidence in a win over Cotto, but the insulting way in which he expressed it. I could easily see a trainer with the reputation of Steward feeling insulted when Roach says it "wouldn't make a damn bit of difference" and he would do it again because it was "that easy" the first time

I'm a fan of Roach and I don't find it hard to believe at all Pac could beat Cotto thoroughly a second time, but the words he used basically **** all over Cotto as a boxer who has accomplished a lot and questioned Steward's credentials as an effective teacher. Steward didn't respond with anything too direct addressing these comments but more politely made broader more general comments showing a dissatisfaction with the way Roach goes about opening his mouth sometimes. I expect someone of Roach's class to show more, well, class.

 

It's true, Roach used to be a lot more classy.

Money changes people; obviously some more than others. Respect should still mean something in boxing; I hate this hoodlum trash talk **** that has started in recent years.

Boxing used to be better...

 

I think a lot of people forget that Roach's parkinsons certainly may have had a huge effect on his personality, a lot of people think he's a **** but it just might be that his dementia is starting to set in...

 

What reasonable human being ever called Freddie Roach a ****??

 

if roach could actually say something without saying the direct opposite 10 minutes later he would be adding some excitement, but since the guy (and yes, he is a great trainer) spouts more crap than the promoters, and we all know how much crap they spout
