Emmanuel Steward: "Freddie Roach needs to be TRAINER, not a PROMOTER"

Trainers do need to be promoters to a certain extent, but I agree with Steward in this case. Not only does he go out of his way to get himself in the media, but he also tries to act as the manager. If this is what Manny wants then it's fine, but sometimes it feels like the Freddy Roach show and he has to call all the shots.

That's like the pot calling the kettle black. Steward's been in positions like this where his advice wasn't being favored during his "prime years". Steward knows the boxing game and is only calling out Roach because if either of those guys argue any further we're gonna hear the real truth behind the boxing scene. He's basically digging at Roach without exposing himself...if you know what I mean. This is more or less trivial, unless some serious statements begin to pour out (usually when they do, they go right under our noses...we're too focused on the more spectacular moments).

 

agreed. roach does talk too much. when you're a trainer, you obviously support your fighter but you're talking trash yet you not the one getting in the ring.

Does Steward care to elaborate on exactly how Roach saying Manny would win a rematch with one of Steward's fighters gets Roach a big payday?

Or why Arum would tell Roach to trash one of Arum's own biggest ticket sellers.

I'd say Steward is the one who is chasing the payday because he knows a rematch with Pac is the biggest one he could get with Cotto. Which makes Steward the despicable one here, because he's throwing his charge to a lion he knows he can't beat. Just for the payday.

 

i hate how everyone thinks manny is unbeatable. I really do belive steward would make a difference at the rematch that will happen.

Stewart has trained a top ten HW champion - as well as a host of ATG fighters. Freddy Roach has *nothing* that Emanual Steward needs to be jealous about...

 

I have grown to hate the Roach very much.

 

Roach is talking like a trainer that has NO doubt whatsoever that Manny can beat Cotto again,and regardless of whom is training him. I bet Steward thinks the same way about the opponents the Klits have fought....dont matter who trains them his boys are simply better and nop trainer can make a Volkswagen into a Ferrari no matter how hard they may try.

Roach seems to just talk what he thinks. I have no problem listening to any trainer who has accomplished the stuff he has. It wasn't by accident or by luck,it has been done by hard work and a sound education and tremendous insight that's been amassed over the years. True story.Like it or lump it.:hi:

 

I think Russ Anber once said that its okay for the fighters to trash talk, but for coaches to do it is bad, or something. Im not sure but i used to respect roach but now hes just an ******* with a big mouth.

 

As long as Roach properly trains his fighters, he's doing his job. And right now, there's nothing to suggest he isn't doing that. WHo gives a **** is he says **** here and there. Means nothing unless you make a big deal out of it...

 

What I hate is how EVERYBOY used the term EVERYBODY so liberally...

Here's something to remember...this "everybody" and his cousin, "Everyone" and stepson, "The Same Posters..." do not exist. Never have.
