Yes they were it happens to all great fighters who stick around too long, it happened to Tyson, Holifield, ODLH etc you overstay your welcome and you can get beatdown BTW, losing to Spinks and being TKO'd by Holmes were not good spots in Ali's career and I bet Holmes wishes he never stepped to Tyson.
Roy Jones gets a pass on here??? Im guessing you weren't around for the Roy Jones/Dariuz Michalweski threads early in the decade. Roy Jones was hated as much as Floyd Mayweather on here back in the day.
I just want to say one thing and this is coming from a guy who was not a fan of Roy Jones Jr. NOBODY beats a prime Roy Jones Jr from the same weight class of course.
Before the first fight, when speaking with Merchant Jones said he was about a 6 or a 7 after moving back down in weight at age 35, Tarver and Byrd have also had problems losing weight in thier mid 30s, its a valid problem for guys in thier mid 30s who are no longer young enough to simply shake it off.
Right Rico, Roy never really kept his hands up, his defense was his reflexes. As those went, of course he was gonna get KTFO by a big puncher. Fighters like Holmes who had more traditional defense are obviously at less of a risk of getting KOed once their reflexes fade.
But that was for the fight right after losing the weight. Didn't Byrd get KTFO after losing a ton of weight and fighting a LHW? And Tarver schooled by BHOP after the Rocky movie? But both of these were right after losing the weight? Or am I wrong?. Jones had time to get used to the weight for the second fight. He actually WON the first one and then gets KTFO in early in the second? Tarver is not given enough credit.
Most greats have been knocked out badly. Chavez,Hearns,Duran,Foreman,Frazier (in his prime) and nothing takes away from it. A year from now people put the whole career in perspective, not just one fight. Now we remember this fight, but later we won't as much. I don't think being knockout out diminished a fighter, it is how they rebound or when it was. What rates a great fighter is resume and who you beat and who was ATG. That is how I do anyway.
:rofl Tomato cans? Really? Douglas and Williams step ups? Really? He beat better fighters than those two.
Wish he'd retired after the Tarver loss. Would have been a top 25 ATG, in my opinion. Roy, get out of there already. You don't have it anymore and all you're doing is ruining your legacy. No shame in that.
atsch you know nothing about boxing, Tyson beat better fighters than Douglas and williams, further more Holy beat a rusty Tyson that spent 4 yrs away from boxing and Tyson was completly shot after 01.
