this isn't going to go down well with some brits if they take it to heart but if any of you truly want people like frank warren to get out of the boxing game you need to hear this - because if guys like warren are allowed to dominate british boxing this trend of british fighters, for example, who rarely get the chance to fight their higher profile counterparts is going to continue.... being as honest and objective as i can. the ability of a fighter can become irrelavant (relatively speaking) - if a promoter -fighter team consciously decide not to pursue a carrer in the US simply because...... that's where big money can be made. you don't see drivers who win back to back formula 3 titles staying away from formula 1 - but in boxing a lot of money can still be made outside of the states by standing on this 'lesser tier', because boxing has way too many obscurities which lead to it lacking credibility and consistency. anyone who's read any of my posts know that i love to use joe calzaghe as a shining example of how to do this, but you'll also remember that i've never criticised the man's abilities. i'm not a hater. i've loved boxing my whole life. so tell me why, and only in boxing, we can have an 'undefeated world champion' who can receive so much criticism and heated debate simply because the rules are different in this sport. the answer is that we have money grubbing 'sanctioning bodies' who won't even award a belt to a fighter who beats a recognised champion because the challeneger wasn't financial enough to pay 'snctioning fees' - but it's okay for the world's top P4P fighter to come along, defeat the 'champion' (again) and have bragging rights to his new title.... baldomir, judah, floyd..... it's no wonder the general public can be duped so easily. there's never conjecture about the brilliance of an ayrton senna, a tiger woods or a magic johnson. the reason for that is his employers directly prosper or suffer depending on his success, but they do this on a single stage where everybody competes on the same level. there are no ways to label yourself a 'champion' and not beat the best around you. no negotiating tool to shield your money spinners from a real threat that can lose you momentum and cash flow over time. i'm not offering a solution to this problem because, although most fighters will happily fight anyone (trust me, i know), we have the materialistic governing bodies and fringe promoters throwing a big grey area over the subject of legitimacy. thats about the best i can do.
bump. people have been looking but not posting. lets hear from some brits who dont like warren and can see where he's letting you guys down....
America isn't the be all and end all in boxing it doesn't have the best fighters, crowds or purses bar one or two super fights so why should everyone make there name in america.
why? my point is if it is a level field american fighters should come ver to europe or go to asia to prove they are the best, in england we can sell out massive stadiums, its the same in germany. If hatton fights pacman it will be at wembley stadium infront of 80-100000 people shown all over the world. you don't get that in america, why americans are golden boy promotions and other maericans letting you down?
trying to post again...its not doing it right. money from fights isnt made from the gate, its made from PPV, casinos and hotels. i said you need to read the post because it explains why its not an even playing field.
thats how it works in america because you have **** fans, in the uk they could fill wembley make 10-20 million just off the gate before ppv and anything else.
i'm not american you fool. you keep putting up barriers when someone posts something genuine but it's not going to change the way things are. by the way, you never read my full post - you were only interested in getting your back up to defend your fighters. thats narrow minded so save the judgments.
Same can be said of U.S fighters very few play away from home and if that's because there's more money to be had in the usa then the same can be said of successful british boxers. Lets not forget this is a business as well as a sport/entertainment and many british fighters can earn a solid bank balance never fighting in america. Just look at Khan he never fought anyone of note and made a fortune. I for one think all british boxers should be thrown in at the deep end it can only make british boxing better. That's why Chris Eubank was the best super middle around in the 90's in the UK ( I still think he would have beaten Toney ) because he learnt his trade in an american gym.
i have read your full post i just think my points are valid, it obviously isn't going to be a level field as life is just like that but why should fighters have to go towards america to make a name and money when they can do it elsewhere, surely that levels the playing field. You will also find most people that denigrate fighter like calzaghe are american and can't accept that america isn't the big name in boxing anymore and they have very few fighters to cheer so they would rather rubbish other fighters.
people arent rubbishing calzaghe because they "are american". america will always be the cashcow of boxing unless something unforeseen happens in the next few years. what do you think about what i've said about frank warren (and others have said with a thread started recently), that he holds back his fighters? it's not a prejudice from the americans no matter how much you want to believe it and i've explained why. answer some points directly instead of skipping them over to say only what you want to believe.
frank warren may hold back his fighters but he got hatton a big fight and he got joe a few so it's not like he can't make it happen. My point is frank can make a nice bit of cash on bigger fights why would he want his guys to fight lower class fighters all the time as it isn't making him any more money. Obviously protecting his fighters 0 is something of a knock on him but its the fighters as well as the promoter that has to be blamed. You will also find it is msotly americans that are slagging of calzaghe and hatton, obviously some brits do as well but if calaghe, haye or hatton where american they would be getting alot more praise than they do now thats a fact. In temrs of america being the cash cow of boxing it has changed, if top american fighters had the bottle/intelligence to fight the best in europe they could make more money than they make in the us (bar pbf and odlh), fighters like taylor have been offered alot more than they ahve ever made to come to wales but have turned it down.
