They could have got two better fighters to fight for the vacant title than Balzsay(who?) and Pascal.

No they couldn't, we're talking about the WBO here.

As for the main topic, it's irrelavent really. I don't recognise the WBO as a legitimate title so when someone vacates one it makes no difference to anything as far as I'm concerned.

I think the man makes the title relavent in this case. He defended the title 21 times, this has to stand for something.

I argue that as Calzaghe won the WBO title before it was recognised as a major title, more like the IBO title these days, that Calzaghe's first few defences should NOT count in his defence record.

Hence, Sven Ottke, who defended a legitimate IBF world title 21 times (and unified with another legit title, the WBA) that his record of defences is better and greater than that of Joe Calzaghe. Considering they fought many of the similar opponents (some ottke did before, some calzaghe did before), I strongly believe this is a legitimate argument.

Then you need to kill yourself immediately, because thats what Ottke's opponents had to do to Sven himself to get a draw.

Ah yes, the sanctioning body that instills the likes of Gary Lockett as mandatory challengers and sanctions titles fights against the likes of Tocker Pudwill and Bobby Gunn:lol::lol:.

I disagree. On paper, it's almost impossible to seperate the two

Aaah Tocker Pudwill - another Ottke leftover that Cal enjoyed

    What era?

The only 2 mandatories in 10 years era?

Maybe during their reign, but Calzaghe has much better wins since Lacy, the added bonus of Eubank that trumps anything Ottke did, and does not have his legacy tarred by home cooking.
