Hey guys, so I've been boxing for the past year now. I can easily say that I love the sport and wish that I could do it forever, but that is not the case. I have become very susceptible to concussions and often get headaches after sparring sessions.

I personally don't mind the pain and would be fine with continuing, but I worry that this is a sign that I'm simply not built for the sport and that eventually i'm probably going to get a serious head injury.

Do you guys recommend any other fighting sports where the chance of a concussion or serious head trauma is less. Thanks.

you could stop sparring for a bit, or pick good sparring opponents who wont go hard with you.

It could be you are in a gym where things are a bit too rough. Sometimes you need slow work/drills instead of all out sparring/gym wars.

You can always try it in a year or so, give yourself time to heal. My advice would be continue shadow boxing to stay in form, but also you could pick up another sport like wrestling/bjj.

With all due respect, this is entirely unrealistic. Stopping for a while will only result in the same outcome when he picks up again. And finding guys who won't go as hard on you will only get you as far as getting your ass kicked next time you spar someone else. No gym in their right mind operates under the pretense of "going easy" on guys.
Boxing is a rough sport, there's no way around that. Period.
This young man has made the right decision, and realized it's not for him before it was too late.
There's no shame in that. Less than 1% of the world's population is cut out for boxing and choosing to stay active and pursue a more suitable combat sport is a great approach. Kudos to that.
And yes, I agree BJJ might be worth a shake.
