Only 1 million viewers last night, albeit up against tough competition. I don't know how expensive it is for them to put on but does anyone else think the only 1 million viewers isn't worth the bother for them?
1million for a fight with no belts against an American who not many people have heard of is good numbers.

I'd have thought they'll be well chuffed with 1 million viewers. Especially as it's had hardly any build up
Let's face it Ch5 are banking on Fury to get the viewing figures regardless of the opponent. CH5 were sold on the strength of Henessy's pitch......and I'll give you this......he is a good sales man! Hennesy was doing all he could to keep the viewers interested in Fury last nigh,t as he proclaimed him the most exciting heavyweight in the world. who would be ready in 18 months for a title shot.......but the truth is he beat a mediocre journeyman last night......and even so Fury got badly hurt against mediocre opposition. The interesting thing is whether the Ch5 viewers actually believe the hype......or whether they are savy enough to see last night's fight for what it was.
These figures may not be the same stellar ratings that Fury-Chisora got but they are still decent figures. Especially when you take into consideration that he wasn't fighting the most exciting of opponents and there was a blackout that took out more then half the fight. This will still be a top 20/25 rating for the week on Channel 5, so unless they are spending some seriously big cash for this, I see no reason for this rating to put them off. I can't remember where I read it but 1 million was the target they were hoping for the Chisora-Fury fight, so when you take into consideration the above factors, you would have to figure that they would still be fairly happy with those figures. Also worth adding that it beat Big Brother in the ratings, and I can guarantee that Big Brother would cost more than the Boxing does.
I think they wont be happy or dissapointed with this really, got more than big brother so can't fault that
The first fight in the "return to boxing on terrestrial tv" pulled in 3 million. Losing 2 million viewers isn't good, although I suspect that Hennesy and Ch5 will make the most of the "blackout" problems to explain the big drop in figures.
On the other hand Fury is much much more well known FOLLOWING the Fury Chisora terrestrial broadcast, so perhaps CH5 were actually expecting the figure to even improve on the initial 3 million, let's face it Fury's has had much more of a presence in the tabloids since his Chisora bout.
I'm not sure they would have expected to improve on the three million figure, let's not forget that Chisora was a good opponent for Tyson in that he was well known thanks to the "Klitschko fights" the beef between him and Tyson, and that there was more time for the promotion of that fight. Whereas Firtha was the unknown second/third/fourth choice journeymen opponent who had no coverage or exposure before the fight, there was no trash talk, no titles, and the event was put together in slap dash fashion. Simply put it was hardly an inspiring fight that was going to grab the attention of the casual fan. Considering that there was a blackout and he was a fighting a journeymen these are still decent enough figures. The pressure is now Mick Hennessy to deliver a bigger event next time that can deliver figures like 2million+.
They did far better figures in the Chisora fight then they thought they would,i heard they would of been happy for 1 million for that one.To get 1 million fot this one with the opponent they had is fine and i expect the blackout had an effect.I am totaly confident the next Fury fight will be on 5.This fight did have less build up then the Chisora fight and anyone with half a brain would know this would do less.
