will people please stop saying that enzo saw gary lockett beeten easily by pavlik, and advised joe to stay away. lockett is a bum! believe me there is no way on earth that pavliks performance against gary lockett has affected the choice of joe. the fight between lockett and pavlik was a disgrace in the first place, lockett is and never has been better then a d/c level fighter. people who believe this has had any effect on joes decision are being very biased:smoke the reason for joes decision is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, nothing more nothing less. lets be honest RJJ is a much better draw to the neutral boxing fan who doesnt know much about the sport, joe wil probably make nearly twice as much fighting jones as pavlik, and who can blame him?
You are right. They decided in watching the films for the Pavlik/Lockett fight that it wasn't going to happen then. That is why Joe wasn't at ring side. Calzaghe sees Pavlik as too big a risk to his OH to fight him. It is the truth, get over it.
so if calzaghe fought an 85 year old man and broke his nose in under 5 seconds, would that make calzaghe more of a threat to pavlik?
The Lockett fight was Enzo's first up close and personal look at Pavlik. Enzo had a fighter that had never even been down before, and all of a sudden the guy is taking a knee every 30 seconds! Sometimes it's not just who you beat, but HOW you beat them. Pavlik/Lockett was no doubt one of many factor's in Joe's decision.
